Island Cruises has announced it is to trial a new and unique shore excursion entitled "Live the City Experience".

Available on European cruise holidays and Mediterranean cruises, guests can combine sightseeing and entertainment by following the Live the City destination pack - which includes a guidebook and illustrated route map.

"I am very excited about this new initiative, and am sure this trial will be a success. I believe our guests will really enjoy the mix of sightseeing, discovery, and entertainment offered by the Live the City experience," Ben Green, product development manager at Island Cruises commented.

Passengers can also take part in onshore treasure hunts, searching for clues to help them correctly answer an interactive quiz on their return to the ship.

This summer, Island Cruises will be offering a new Mediterranean cruise itinerary called Mediterranean Splendour.

Upgrades and specials with Island Cruises Island Cruises has announced its summer Captain's Specials cruise holiday offers.

The informal cruise line, has announced saving offers on several Mediterranean cruises and Caribbean cruises on seven and 15-night sailings.

Offers are available for cruises on both Island Star and Island Escape for fly-cruises to Palma, Sicily, Naples, Toulon, Barcelona and Barbados and the Caribbean.

All-inclusive drink offers and reductions on family holidays for summer 2008 are also available.

Onboard Island Escape it is claimed that there is an abundance of facilities and entertainment: "From the wide range of restaurants and bars, to relaxing with a massage in the salon and spa, to great evening entertainment in the theatre or casino - there is something for everyone."

First-time cruisers may enjoy a holiday with Island Cruises as it is a casual cruise line and there are no set times for meals and no formal dress code.

Cruisers can dine on breakfast, lunch and dinner where and when they choose to.

Island Cruises to offer Barbadian weddings in 2009
And according to Ms Richardson, the most popular destinations for these overseas nuptials are exotic locations such as Caribbean islands.

Now, couples wanting to exchange vows overseas will have the opportunity to combine their wedding with a luxury Caribbean cruise, after TravelMole revealed that Island Cruises is launching a Caribbean weddings programme in Barbados which includes onboard ceremonies, while land-based venues are available at a supplemental cost.

Sales director Leslie Peden described the developments as "welcome news".

A Mediterranean itinerary for summer 2009 has also been announced by Island Cruises which includes the new ports of call of Elba, Calvi, Cannes and Trapani in Sicily.

A fly-cruise itinerary called Mediterranean Splendour has also been published which includes calls to Naples, Civitavecchia, Elba, Calvi and Mahon and is aimed at previous customers.

Single cruisers catered for by Island Island Cruises, after it was announced that the cruise line is specifically targeting guests travelling alone for its cruises.

Island Cruises notes that savings are now available for singles sailings on its Mediterranean cruises for single travellers for the months of April, May, June, October and November.

Such fly-cruise holidays depart from Birmingham, Gatwick or Manchester and arrive in Palma for cruises to Sicily, Naples, Florence, Pisa, Toulon and Barcelona.

Activities available for solo guests on holidays with Island Cruises include taking cocktails by the pool and taking part in onboard activities and entertainment programmes.

"Travelling alone [passengers] can choose how to enjoy themselves [by] doing as much or as little as they like," the cruise line noted.

Passengers can also meet up with other guests also travelling alone at the Island Cruises "Solos lunch" held at the beginning of each cruise.

Islands Cruises displays full house Island Cruises.

The cruise line is holding its first ever No Limit Texas Hold'em poker tournament cruise on the Island Star this spring.

Sailing on March 28th 2008, passengers taking part in the tournament will be in with a chance of winning part of the £20,000 prize fund.

"And there's no need to go alone, take along a non-playing guest and they can share your cabin and join in the fun from just £529. This includes all the above except entry into the tournament," Island Cruises commented.

Non-poker playing passengers can enjoy other benefits of the seven-night Mediterranean cruise such as visiting ports in Palma, Livorno, Genoa, Marseille, Barcelona and Valencia.

Poker players, meanwhile, can look forward to champagne in their cabin on arrival and cocktail parties.

Romantic cruises with Island Island Cruises has been earning itself a reputation as a cruise line for the romantics, after a couple recently renewed their vows during a Mediterranean cruise.

A group travelling between Palma and Olbia-Sardinia celebrated the ceremony onboard the Island Escape and the captain led the ceremony.

According to Island Cruises, the event was reminiscent of a wedding as the bride was accompanied to the altar by her father.

"Once they had renewed their vows the partying commenced with a reception held in The Lookout. It was a fantastic event as they had brought along 47 guests to celebrate with them and enjoy their special day," the cruise company reported.

Meanwhile, Island Cruises has recently announced the addition of a 7-night fly-cruise holiday from Durham Tees Valley. The company already operates a 2 week cruise and stay holiday from this airport.
