Shortly after taking her inaugural crossing from Southampton, the world’s first SMARTship has been officially named in Bayonne, New Jersey.
She is the ship the whole world had been waiting for and earlier this month she was ready to show off in Southampton. As trade and VIP’s were invited to enjoy a weekend onboard, the response was even more positive than expected. The feedback, press and write-ups could not praise Royal Caribbean enough on their new masterpiece.
After a weekend in Southampton, guests boarded for her inaugural transatlantic to New York. She arrived to crowds of people waiting to catch a glimpse of her. Ready for her naming ceremony, it was time for Godmother Kristin Chenoweth to officially christen her.
The ceremony included an array of entertainment including a version of 'Somewhere over the rainbow' by Godmother Kristin Chenoweth and Sonic Odyssey.
Richard Fain, CEO of Royal Caribbean International said during the ceremony ''The journey began in 2009. That was when we decided to start working on a new type of cruise ship for a new type of cruising. We thought, ‘how could we top Allure and Oasis of the Seas’. But Royal Caribbean has never aspired to doing what was expected, and we decided to chart new paths."
Fain also went on to say he wants to change the way people think of cruising and wants to hear people saying "Remember what cruising used to be like before Quantum of the Seas … remember when it took an hour to check in? Remember when there was only one dining room? Remember when you needed room keys?"
Quantum of the Seas will now spend a few weeks in New Jersey before sailing to her home port of Shanghai.
