Royal Caribbean waited until the official naming ceremony to name the godmother of their newest ship, Allure of the Seas, and made history when 3D animated character, Princess Fiona, was unveiled. Princess Fiona, or Mrs Shrek, is one of DreamWorks Animation's best known characters and the first to become godmother to a cruise ship.
"It’s never easy choosing the right godmother, but we realised we had the perfect candidate right in front of us. Princess Fiona is not only a Royal, but we felt such a unique ship deserved a unique godmother and Princess Fiona symbolizes the fun and entertainment that is so extraordinary on Allure of the Seas," said Fain - Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd’s Chairman and CEO.
Having Princess Fiona as the Allure of the Seas' godmother is testament to Royal Caribbean's reputation for entertainment, along with their partnership with DreamWorks Animations. The ship will be showing the latest DreamWorks 3D films along with character based entertainment in the kids clubs.
The naming celebrations were attended by 3,500 guests, as part of a one night inaugural cruise and fundraiser, benefitting the United Way of Miami-Dade & Broward counties' Haitian relief efforts, along with other charities. The ceremony took place in Allure's Amber Theatre and was both broadcast onboard and streamed online.
