Leaders in cruise innovation,
Royal Caribbean International, have announced plans to launch a brand new class of cruise ships. The ships are expected for delivery in the second quarters of 2022 and 2024.
The cruise ships will belong to the new Icon Class and be powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG). LNG power and fuel cell technology has been introduced to cause minimal impact on the environment and drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Richard Fain, Chairman and CEO of Royal Caribbean International said of the new class of ships "We are dedicated to innovation, continuous improvement, and environmental responsibility, and Icon gives us the opportunity to deliver against all three of these pillars."
A memorandum of understanding was signed with shipbuilder Meyer Turku, with contracts expected to be completed by the end of 2016.
News of the new LNG powered class comes during an exciting year for Royal Caribbean, just five months after launching their latest Oasis Class ship,
Harmony of the Seas, the biggest cruise ship in the world.
