MSC Cruises has announced that their partnership with UNICEF will see key representatives and guest of the charity participating in the naming ceremony of their forthcoming ship, MSC Divina.
The naming ceremony is taking place in Marseille on 26th May 2012 where classical performer and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, Maxim Vengerov, will join MSC Cruises’ CEO Pierfrancesco Vago and MSC fleet godmother Sophia Loren for a question and answer session. Vengerov will join the evening's entertainment line-up as well as delivering a speech — culminating in the release of hundreds of UNICEF balloons with the help of local children.
The partnership between MSC Cruises and UNICEF has seen guests onboard the line's ships raise over $1 million since 2009. The christening will see MSC Cruises highlight the Get On Board For Children initiative, which will help fund the UNICEF-supported Platform for Urban Centre's project — which aims to combat poverty and equality in 94 favelas across Brazil.
The christening will no doubt also be filled with MSC's usual flair and entertainment as the 139,000 tonne ship is named by Sophia Loren in the south of France. The 4,100 passenger ships boasts the MSC Yacht Club — an exclusive luxury space within the ship — and aqua park and much more. The popular Italian cruise line are known for their celebrations and with UNICEF onboard will only add to what they have up their sleeves. MSC Divina's maiden cruise is a 6 night sailing to Venice, taking in Rome, Messina and Dubrovnik on the way.
