UK cruise lovers could benefit from the latest move announced by
Royal Caribbean Cruises as it positions itself to reach out to a wider audience by shifting vessels from the US to Europe.
The cruise operator revealed that its
Liberty of the Seas ship will find a new home in Barcelona, Spain, in 2011, from where it will provide a wide variety of itineraries.
Belen Wanguemert, managing director of Royal Caribbean Cruises Espana, made the revelation on Facebook when he posted: "The cruise ship revolution is coming: Liberty of the Seas will arrive in Barcelona in 2011."
News of the vessel, which is one of the company's largest and most innovative cruise ships, being redeployment, comes in the wake of plans by
Norwegian Cruise Lines to also base a ship in Barcelona.
The company's equally gigantic
Norwegian Epic, which is its largest ever, will start offering voyages from the city in May of 2011.
