Research by
MSC Cruises on 1,033 married couples has revealed almost half of these couples spent more than £1,000 on their honeymoon, TravelMole reports.
And some newly wed couples go even further by spending in excess of £3,001 (15 per cent), while one per cent of honeymooners parted with over £10,000 for the perfect post-nuptial break.
The study also showed that
Caribbean cruises,
Mediterranean cruises and
South America cruises may be of particular interest to those taking second honeymoons.
According to the research, combination holidays are "much more popular" for this group and a third would like to enjoy beach holidays combined with an activity element.
"Fifty-five per cent [of honeymooners] are not looking for a traditional desert island honeymoon and many would not have thought of a cruise, which offers a wealth of varied experiences," commented MSC Cruises UK managing director Claudia Baino.
The managing director also noted that travel agents have the opportunity to be "creative" with newlyweds in terms of selecting "holidays of a lifetime".
