Cruise holidays have beaten off other types of holidaying in order to take top spot in a recent travel trend survey.
Carlson Wagonlit Travel's 2008 Travel Trends Survey saw cruising named as the top international holiday destination its not really a destination? ahead of Mexico, Italy, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic.
While the most popular form of international holiday was named as a
Caribbean cruise,
Mediterranean cruises featured in fifth spot - a five place jump from their tenth position last year in the survey.
"This year, more than ever, we're seeing some exciting shifts in the travel patterns of our clients. Alaska is another bright spot in the travel landscape - particularly for cruising," stated Roger E Block, Executive Vice-President of the Carlson Wagonlit Travel Associate Division.
Alaska was named as the top cruise destination in the survey, rising from second place in the 2007 poll.
According to Carlson Wagonlit Travel this is the first time in four years that the location has topped the list.
Carnival Cruises and
Royal Caribbean Cruises both offer cruise holidays to Alaska.
