Costa Cruises has booked its one millionth guest on an Italian style cruise.
The news has been described by the line as holding significance not just for the line but for the cruise industry as a whole.
"Our one millionth guest is a historic achievement and one that fills us with pride," said Costa Crociere S.p.A. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Pier Luigi Foschi.
He added that the achievement is testimony to Costa Cruises' "passion, the quality and excellence of our work and the competence and solidity that our company boasts".
The company looks forward to expanding its success further in a drive boosted by the arrival of three new ships by 2010, which will take its number of cruise vessels to fifteen.
Citing innovation as a key feature of its approach to the cruise holiday,
Costa Cruises points out that its fly-cruise formula was a global innovation on its 1968 launch, as was the winter Mediterranean cruise it pioneered in 2001.
Meanwhile, the line recently took delivery of its newest ship, Costa Serena.
