From next year,
Costa Cruises' Concordia vessel will be home to a state-of-the-art telemedicine suite, it has been revealed.
The new suite will boost the level of healthcare available on board, meaning that passengers will have access to advanced medical technology around the clock.
Speaking last week, the cruise line said the suite would allow those on board to communicate with doctors on land, enabling "consultation at a distance".
Costa Cruises president Gianni Onorato said it was part of the cruise line's mission to be at the forefront, adding that Costa was proud to be involved in the first experiment in telemedicine at sea.
"This is a highly innovative and extremely important project; the aim of this European first is to further enhance the quality of the service for our guests and crew," he continued.
In related news, Costa announced last month that work is continuing on its latest vessel the Costa Deliziosa.
