Celebrity Cruises has announced that it is changing the home port for its liner Mercury, with Vancouver, Canada, the new departure point for the ship.
Relocating Mercury to British Colombia will give passengers enjoying Alaskan cruises with Celebrity more time in selected ports and a better arrival time for viewing the incredible Hubbard Glacier, according to the company.
Juneau, Skagway, and Ketchikan, Alaska ? all ports of call on Celebrity Cruises' seven-night Alaska cruise when Mercury was based in Seattle ? will still be on the itinerary when Mercury begins sailing from Vancouver in 2007.
Ketchikan is perhaps best known for a somewhat unusual claim to fame ? the largest collection of totem poles in the world, collected at the Totem Heritage Centre.
The cruise will also still sail through the India Passage and those lucky enough to be on board will enjoy a number of hours beside the magnificent ice blue Hubbard Glacier.
The year will be an exciting one for Celebrity Cruises, as the company starts sailing to Australia and New Zealand also.
