Celebrity Cruises captain recently got to do something a little different than what is generally a part of his typical day by having to reverse 26 miles down a river.
Apostolos Boukakis was the captain responsible for reversing the Celebrity Equinox down the River Ems in Germany.
However, he only had a four-metre clearance on each side of the 317-metre long vessel and had little room for error as he manoeuvred the cruise liner out of the shipbuilders.
This was because it is expected to appear in pristine condition in Southampton next month to undergo its naming ceremony.
Mr Boukakis said: "The conveyance is an interesting challenge for any captain.
"With an average channel breadth of 111 metres it is a bit like taking a brand-new sports car down winding country lanes. It's exhilarating, but not without its share of trepidation."
Among the trips that holidaymakers can expect to enjoy on the Celebrity Equinox ship in the future are a four-night cruise of the Caribbean and a seven-night journey around the Mediterranean.
