Celebrity Cruises orders new ship

Date Posted: 23 May 2007
Celebrity Cruises has announced that it has put in an order for a fourth Solstice-class ship to enter service in autumn 2011.

The ship will join its sister liners Celebrity Solstice, Celebrity Equinox and Celebrity Eclipse, which are set to begin cruising in autumn 2008, summer 2009 and summer 2010 respectively.

"Ordering a fourth Solstice-class ship is obviously a testament to the demand we've received from travel agent partners and travellers alike for more cruise vacation options with Celebrity," said Richard Fain, Royal Caribbean Cruises Chairman and Chief Executive.

"This expansion also is yet another vivid illustration of the incredibly exciting growth and momentum behind the Celebrity brand."

Celebrity Cruises has said that 90 per cent of the new liner's larger standard staterooms will be outside, while 85 per cent will have verandas, meaning that the 2,850 guests on boards will be in for a great cruise.

The 122,000-tonne ship will be built by the German shipbuilder Meyer Werft, which entered the cruise ship-building market in the 1980s.

What our customers say

"I booked a Fred Olsen cruise with IGLU last month and was so impressed by the service I received. The staff member I spoke to was Kimberley and she was exemplary. Capable, kind, professional, patient, friendly and knowledgeable. She went through every step of the way calmly and thoroughly. IGLU were recommended to me by friends and I have no hesitation in passing the recommendation along. Well done IGLU and thank you. "

"So easy to deal with, I studied the Cruise I wanted, did my research with different company's and returned to Iglu. I had three quotes matching Iglu’s cost, but with one phone call they beat the price themselves by £40 without me even asking, how easy was that! "
