Celebrity Cruises yesterday announced plans to build two new ships under the project name 'Edge' for delivery in 2018 and 2020.
It has been revealed the new class of ships will be smaller than the Solstice Class but larger than the Millennium Class. They are set to carry around 2, 900 guests each and build upon the 'modern luxury' experience.
Both ships will feature new technologies to focus on being environmentally friendly and add to the on-going process of ensuring use of sustainable materials.
Richard Fain, Chairman and Chief Executive of Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (parent company for Celebrity Cruises) said "The addition of two project EDGE vessels to our fleet delivers on our long-term strategic plan of moderate capacity growth, and continues the positive momentum the Celebrity brand has achieved in the premium segment of our industry”
Following on from this, Michael Baylet, president of Celebrity Cruises added "Our new class of ship will set the standard for premium world travel and deliver the next generation of modern luxury experiences that our guests know and love."
Being built at STW Shipyard in France, the first new ship is set to debut in 2018 with the second coming in 2020. No details of itineraries have yet been revealed.
