Carnival's New Destiny

Date Posted: 22 Jul 2011

Carnival Destiny was the biggest and boldest cruise ship to hit the ocean when she was launched back in 1996. Carnival's former flagship has since been overtaken by some of the most incredible ships the industry has witnessed, but that doesn't mean game over for this forward-thinking ship.

The Carnival Destiny will go into dry-dock in early 2013 for a month where she will be "completely refurbished", including new venues and the removal of the magrodome over the pool. Carnival have yet to confirm the the report, but a spokesperson said in an email: "we have several ships scheduled for dry-docks over the next couple of years but haven't unveiled details on any of them yet."

According to the Cruise Business Review story, where the refurb was first reported, there will be a number of major changes though no price tag has yet been attached. The improvements include new restaurants and a relocated and revamped Camp Carnival on Lido Deck, moving the waterslide on deck 10 from the forward to aft and transforming in into a WaterWorks, Carnival's signature waterpark. All of the ships 1,321 cabins will benefit from a facelift and the Spa Carnival will be refurbished.

As soon as we have confirmation of this story from Carnival Cruises, we will update you with all the official changes and details. Having seen their sister company Princess Cruises completely revamp the Grand Princess earlier this summer, there is no reason why this former great can't be bought back to the top of her game.

What our customers say

"I booked a Fred Olsen cruise with IGLU last month and was so impressed by the service I received. The staff member I spoke to was Kimberley and she was exemplary. Capable, kind, professional, patient, friendly and knowledgeable. She went through every step of the way calmly and thoroughly. IGLU were recommended to me by friends and I have no hesitation in passing the recommendation along. Well done IGLU and thank you. "

"So easy to deal with, I studied the Cruise I wanted, did my research with different company's and returned to Iglu. I had three quotes matching Iglu’s cost, but with one phone call they beat the price themselves by £40 without me even asking, how easy was that! "
