Today was the day that Royal Caribbean finally confirmed the rumour that we had all been speculating, Anthem of the Seas will be based in Southampton.
Days after the celebratory keel laying for Anthem of the Seas it was announced that the brand new ship, sister ship to Quantum of the Seas will call Southampton her home.
Details have been constantly revealed about Quantum of the Seas since the announcement of the new ship, including home port, itineraries and onboard features. However, little has been said about Anthem of the Seas. The question on everyone’s mind has been, where will she sail from? Much happiness was shared today when it was confirmed that she will sail from the popular British port of Southampton.
With the cruise industry rapidly growing in the UK the demand for cruises from England has become high. Royal Caribbean successfully had three ships based here this summer, however they left for warmer climates during our winter. Other major lines sail from Southampton year round including P&O Cruises and Cunard Cruise Line. Anthem will replace Independence of the Seas and sail the Mediterranean in the Summer before relocating to Fort Lauderdale to cruise the Caribbean in winter.
Quantum of the Seas and Anthem of the Seas are said to yet again push all boundaries in the cruise industry and in true Royal Caribbean style, boast an array of innovative and unexpected features. Amongst their state of the art amenities will be bumper cars, indoor sky diving, and an elevating pod that will expand people 300 feet above sea level.
P&O Cruises will also be debuting their new ship, Britannia from Southampton in 2015, so it will interesting to see the two new mega ships together…bring on 2015!
