The Taurine Baths - a Roman archaeological site dating back to the 1st century BC - are located around 4km from the urban centre of Civitavecchia. There is a legend that says the baths came to be after a bull scraped at the ground before a fight, and in doing so uncovered a hot water spring.

The construction of the Michelangelo Fort began in 1508 and ended in 1537. The structure of the fortress, in true Renaissance style, has the shape of a quadrilateral with a tower in each corner, and the central tower has an octagonal layout. Its creation was ordered by Pope Julius II, to defend the Port of Civitavecchia against pirates and any other hostile encounters.

The Cathedral of San Francesco d'Assisi is the most important church of Civitavecchia. Dating back to the 17th century and completely restored in 1950, it has a Baroque style and stands on the remains of a previous Franciscan church.

Originating as an orphanage in 1948, The Museum of Moroccan Judaism is now dedicated to the 2000-year history of the Jewish religion in the Arab world. Visitors will find artefacts, clothing, photographs and a reconstructed 1930’s synagogue.

Located in the heart of Salvador, the Cathedral Basilica of Salvador is one of the finest examples of Mannerism Renaissance architecture in the Portuguese empire and a church near-identical to the famous Jesuit Church of Coimbra in Portugal itself. Consecrated in 1654, it’s one of the oldest structures in the city and boasts an elegant interior with a shallow main chapel.

An extension of Rua das Pedras, a main street that acts as the heart of Buzios, Orla Bardot is a stunning stretch of oceanfront that links two of the oldest areas of town together. Spanning nearly 2 1⁄2 miles, Copacabana Beach is an iconic beach that features golden sands, dark blue waters and is surrounded by a vibrant promenade, resorts and restaurants. The moment you arrive at this popular beach you’ll be in awe of the incredible mountains that tower over it.

Constructed in 1931, this extraordinary statue depicts Jesus Christ in an Art Deco style. Created by Paul Landowski, a renowned French sculptor, it’s an incredibly popular attraction to visit whilst in the city. Overlooking the city, it can be seen from several areas of Rio de Janeiro and makes for a great photo opportunity.

One of the highest peaks in the city, located at the start of Guanabara Bay, the peak of Sugarloaf Mountain can be visited by cable car. Sitting at a height of 396 metres, the views you’ll get from Sugarloaf Mountain will take your breath away.
