Day 2 of Land Tour – Boston – Salem – Kennebunkport – Portland

Along the route north of Boston lies almost four centuries of history as well as some of the East Coast’s finest beaches and seascapes. Your first stop today is Salem, the site of the infamous 17th century witch trials. Continue along the coast stop to gaze at Cape Neddick “Nubble” Lighthouse, the most photographed lighthouse in America. Passing through Portsmouth, the oldest community in New Hampshire known for its thriving fishing community and historic buildings, your next stop will be Kennebunkport. Kennebunkport is home to the palatial summer estates of prominent politicians, including the 41st U.S. President, George H. Bush. From Kennebunkport arrive in Portland, Maine’s largest city and home to the state’s oldest lighthouse.

Day 3 of Land Tour – Portland – Bar Harbor

The drive northeast on Route 1 from Portland to Bar Harbor is unforgettable. See the state’s jagged coastline and rocky beaches of the Atlantic Ocean. Pass through quaint villages where local fishermen mark their grounds with colourful bouys before arriving in the small town of Bar Harbor. Known for its stunning coastal beauty, Bar Harbor has a world renowned ambiance that blends seashore community, Downeast character and the famous Maine Lobster. This evening, perhaps join an optional excursion for a traditional lobster dinner.

Day 4 of Land Tour – Bar Harbor – White Mountains, NH

Today takes you inland towards the spectacular scenery of the White Mountains, the “rooftop of New England,” whose landscape is dotted with enchanting covered bridges, picturesque towns, villages and historic sites. En-route experience breath-taking mountain vistas, pristine forestry and the world renowned Fall foliage of New England.

Day 5 of Land Tour – White Mountains – Stowe – Green Mountains

Today, traverse the White Mountains that divide the states of New Hampshire and Vermont to Stowe, a classic 200-yearold village nestled beside Vermont’s highest peak, Mt. Mansfield. Continue through Burlington on Lake Champlain and stunning views of open meadows, farmlands and forests to Vermont’s Green Mountains. With their dense forests, the Green Mountains are home to bears, moose, wild turkey and deer.

Day 6 of Land Tour – Green Mountains – Newport

Leaving Vermont, arrive in the smallest state in the Union, Rhode Island. Home to spectacular coastal scenery and awe-inspiring architecture, Newport is considered by many a shining gem in the coastal crown of New England. Nowhere is Newport’s natural beauty more on display than on its Cliff Walk. Here, between the pounding surf of the Atlantic Ocean and sprawling lawns, sit the famed Gilded Age mansions that once were the summer playgrounds for socialite families such as the Astor’s and Vanderbilt’s. Visit one of these opulent mansions for a glimpse into the lavish lifestyle of the privileged from a bygone era. Why join an optional excursion for a New England Clam Bake?

Day 7 of Land Tour – Newport – Cape Cod

From the opulence of Newport continue to the unspoiled natural beauty of Cape Cod where picturesque beaches with high sand dunes, lighthouses rising along the coast and stunning sunsets await.

Day 8 of Land Tour – Cape Cod – Marthas Vineyard – Cape Cod

This morning take the short 45 minute ferry ride from Cape Cod, Martha’s Vineyard is the jewel of New England. Spread over 100 square miles are six towns, each with its own proud history and unique character, historic sea captains’ homes, charming gingerbread cottages, a quaint fishing village, five majestic lighthouses and the nation’s oldest operating carousel. While exploring miles of pristine beaches, dramatic clay cliffs, rural landscapes and picturesque waterways discover that Martha’s Vineyard is more than just lobsters and clams.

Day 9 of Land Tour – Cape Cod – Plymouth – Boston

Today begins with a visit to Plymouth, the town where English colonists first made a home in New England. See Plymouth Rock, where according to tradition the passengers of the Mayflower first set foot in the “New World,” views of Plymouth Harbour and the Mayflower II, a replica of the original Mayflower. There is an additional charge to see Mayflower II. Unfortunately the ship did not meet our expectations because of the following; a. food was not of good quality and the system they use to have in the Lido (self service ) restaurant of serving you the main course was only for giving you limited quantity of food. b. Food also in the Dine in rest. did not meet our expectations c. entertainment was cheap and childish d. Amenities in the stateroom were limited.(They have left us only one hand soap and one shower cup for almost fifteen days) e. All drinks were very expensive and differed from their issued tariffs in internet But we have to admit that all ship was very clean, the statement also, and public toilets too. Embarkation and disembarkation were done very properly and easy Therefore we will rate the cruise with a 3

The fabric and layout of the ship was really good. This however was spoilt by other aspects of the cruise. The food wasn't startling and lacked variety. Service in the dining room was slow and the food was only tepid on arrival. Very little food in the lido was on a help yourself basis. Drinks were expensive with a 15% service charge on top. The excursions were also expensive and when tendering was in process it took up to 2 hours before independent travellers could disembark. The onboard activities were limited with one person delivering the majority of lectures. The house shows were however good as was the cabin service. With no laundrette on board you had to use their laundering service. Unfortunately this seemed to sum up he firms attitude of squeezing as much as it could out of people. A prime example of that was you had to pay for coffee if you wanted it at the end of your meal in the dining room.

Thank you Iglu and HAL and all hotels and transfer's the trip was a fantastic experience. AWESOME is a word that these days is used all to frequently however in this case it is most appropriate. The captain of Zaandam sailed 20 miles off cause to sail by an Ice berg we tendered in the Falklands on remembrance Sunday and treated to a service and parade on a lovely sunny day that will live in our memory's for ever. All the ports were Iconic and rounding cape horn to eventually cruise to see a Glaser. Once again our most grateful thanks for the best cruise ever and our 32nd so we have many comparisons.
