Day 1 of Land Tour – Boston
Day 2 of Land Tour – BostonEnjoy a fascinating insight into 'Beantown' during a historical sightseeing tour. At several stops along Boston's famed Freedom Trail, hear about the struggle and courage of the American colonists during revolutionary times. See the colourful neighbourhoods of Back Bay and historic North End. This afternoon is at leisure to discover this charming city at your own pace. Perhaps visit the Boston Tea Party Ships and Museum or the Aquarium. Stroll across Boston Common to see the Ducklings or take a ride in a Swan Boat. Your Tour Director will have plenty of suggestions for you.
Day 3 of Land Tour – Newport, Rhode Island
Today, travel south of Boston to Rhode Island, America's smallest state. The jewel in it’s crown is the elegant town of Newport, lined with the Gilded Age mansions of America's wealthiest families. Visit The Breakers, the grandest of Newport's summer ‘cottages’ and a symbol of the Vanderbilt family's social and financial pre-eminence during the late 19th century. Known as the Sailing Capital of the World for being home to the America’s Cup for over 50 years it still keeps it’s nautical roots. Enjoy on a nautical discovery on-board an 80-foot (24 metre) schooner for a scenic cruise around the coastline. Dinner this evening is at a local restaurant. Day 4 of Land Tour – Sandwich
This morning, travel back in time to visit the stunning New Bedford Whaling Museum, where a local expert talks about the impact of whaling on the region. See the largest model ship in the world and other exhibits including material that inspired Herman Melville to write ‘Moby Dick’. Arrive in the town of Sandwich, the oldest town on Cape Cod. There is a visit to the Heritage Museums and Gardens, to see sweeping lawns, gardens, a windmill, art gallery, museum of Americana and an amazing collection of antique cars. Later, visit the Sandwich Glass Museum to experience the techniques of the English and Irish glassmakers that founder Deming Jarvis developed during the early 19th century. Day 5 of Land Tour – Martha’s Vineyard
This morning, take the ferry to Martha's Vineyard, home to pristine sandy beaches and diverse outdoor attractions. This island has been no stranger to presidential visits, the island has hosted Bill Clinton and the Obamas, while the former U.S. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis maintained a home here. After disembarking, continue to Oak Bluffs, known for its rainbow-coloured, gingerbread-like cottages with storybook decorations, high-peaked roofs,and dainty verandas. There is a tour of the island, before reaching your hotel, Harbor View Hotel, Martha’s Vineyard that overlooks Edgartown's beautiful harbour, lighthouse and Chappaquiddick Island.(B,D)
Day 6 of Land Tour – Cape Cod National Seashore, Provincetown and North Falmouth
Take the ferry back to Woods Hole before an excursion to the Cape Cod National Seashore, a National Park that encompasses much of the Outer Cape. Discover Provincetown at the tip of Cape Cod. This is a small coastal resort known for its beaches, boutiques, restaurants and art galleries. Then, it's on to the cottage-lined streets of North Falmouth and your beachside hotel, Crest Beach Hotel. Ocean View Rooms are guaranteed.(B)
Day 7 of Land Tour – Nantucket Island
This morning, leave Hyannis on a high-speed catamaran for the island of Nantucket. Not only has it retained the charm of a bygone era, it is one of the most exclusive coastal communities in the US. During your visit, see the beauty of the quaint cobblestone streets, simple Quaker-style homes and houses dating back to the whaling days. Return to the mainland in the late afternoon to relax at your beachfront hotel, before joining your Tour Director for a Farewell Meal.(B,D)
Day 8 of Land Tour – Cranberry Bog – Boston
Cranberry is one of the few fruits native to America. Today, Meet a local cranberry bog farmer, with generations of knowledge behind him, he will share with you the lifecycle and cultural impact of this truly American berry. Later return to Boston, for one night before transferring to embark on your cruise.(B)
