Spanning nearly 2 1⁄2 miles, Copacabana Beach is an iconic beach that features golden sands, dark blue waters and is surrounded by a vibrant promenade, resorts and restaurants. The moment you arrive at this popular beach you’ll be in awe of the incredible mountains that tower over it.

Constructed in 1931, this extraordinary statue depicts Jesus Christ in an Art Deco style. Created by Paul Landowski, a renowned French sculptor, it’s an incredibly popular attraction to visit whilst in the city. Overlooking the city, it can be seen from several areas of Rio de Janeiro and makes for a great photo opportunity.

One of the highest peaks in the city, located at the start of Guanabara Bay, the peak of Sugarloaf Mountain can be visited by cable car. Sitting at a height of 396 metres, the views you’ll get from Sugarloaf Mountain will take your breath away.

Rua das Pedras is a cobblestoned main avenue through Buzios that plays host to an abundance of entertainment venues, restaurants, and acts as the heart of the area when it comes to revelry and excitement.

An extension of Rua das Pedras, a main street that acts as the heart of Buzios, Orla Bardot is a stunning stretch of oceanfront that links two of the oldest areas of town together. You’ll also see several statues along this section of oceanfront, including representations of actress Brigitte Bardot and former president Juscelino Kubitschek.

At a passing glance, the unassuming Elevador Lacerda is a simple public lift used to transport locals and tourists from the lower city to the upper city; however, the views of Salvador this urban elevator affords you are simply extraordinary. Built between 1869 and 1873 as a hydraulic elevator, which now runs on electricity, it only takes 30 seconds to ride – but you’ll remember the views from the top of this 72-metre tower forever.

Located in the heart of Salvador, the Cathedral Basilica of Salvador is one of the finest examples of Mannerism Renaissance architecture in the Portuguese empire and a church near-identical to the famous Jesuit Church of Coimbra in Portugal itself. Opening onto a broad plaza, and overlooking the Bay of All Saints to its rear, this is a must-visit landmark for anyone interested in religious and historical sites. Consecrated in 1654, it’s one of the oldest structures in the city and boasts an elegant interior with a shallow main chapel.

A scenic stretch of sand on Salvador’s western coast, Porto da Barra Beach boasts calm waters and golden sands, making it a great destination for swimming and watersports alongside lounging around in the sunshine. It’s also surrounded by restaurants and bars, so you’ll never be too far away from some delicious local cuisine and refreshments. An impressive square in the heart of the city, Marco Zero Square is surrounded by historical landmarks, restaurants and more. With a colourful floor and buildings, it’s often the first place visited by tourists who are stopping off in Recife. Throughout the year, Recife is also host to several cultural events and concerts.

Constructed between 1696 and 1724, the Capela Dourada is an impressive catholic church that boasts awe-inspiring murals, shrines and other breathtaking features. A must see when in Recife, this historical church has some of the largest quantities of gold in the world.

Stretching 7 miles, this beautiful sandy beach is surrounded by buildings and boasts white sands, crystal clear waters and is one of the most visited beaches in the country. A great spot to relax with a good book or enjoy a swim, Boa Viagem Beach offers a tranquil area for visitors and locals to unwind.

Alternatively, if you're looking for something a little more exhilarating during your time in São Vicente head to Monte Verde. An impressive mountain in the eastern part of the island, it sits at an incredible 744 metre-high elevation. Within easy reach of the centre pf Mindelo (6km), the breathtaking views are well worth the trip out there.

Colourful and historic, the People's Palace in Mindelo features colonial Portuguese architecture. Built in 1974, it makes for great photo opportunities during your time in Mindelo.

A prominent catholic cathedral in the city, Our Lady of Victories is a picturesque building that dates to 1936. Featuring beautiful architecture, it’s a must see when stopping off in the city during your cruise.

This fascinating art gallery displays art from a prominent Australian artist. Showcasing the colours and culture of Dakar, there are several exhibitions throughout the building, alongside an art cafe.

A huge renaissance monument that overlooks the town, the bronze statue stands at 52m tall. Designed by Pierre Goudiaby, a prominent Senegalese architect, it’s arguably the most prominent and visited attraction in Dakar.

The epic Caldera de Bandama is a volcanic crater stretching 1,000 metres in diameter. Thanks to the observation platform you can enjoy the sweeping views from the top, or – for the brave – take the adventurous hike down into the crater itself.

This excellent, informative museum – and originally Christopher Cloumbus’ house before he embarked upon his travels - is dedicated to the history of the famous explorer. Visitors will find his personal possessions, drawings, diaries and a portrait, as well as two talkative macaws.

Specialising in hands-on interaction, the Elder Museum of Science and Technology features weird and wonderful scientific exhibits. With four floors of content, you’ll find everything from physics to biology, art to engineering and even a planetarium.

Among Europe’s most famous city beaches is Las Canteras, a golden-sandy beach with calm waters perfect for swimming and year-round warm weather. Spend the day snorkelling, sunbathing and swimming before filling up for dinner at the restaurants and bars.

Considered the most important monument of Canarian religious architecture, Cathedral of Santa Ana features Gothic, neoclassical and Baroque styles of architecture. Inside, you’ll find more stunning examples of expert craftsmanship as well as a tower from which you’ll see stunning views.

With beautiful sand stretching for almost a mile, Playa de Las Teresitas is one of the best beaches in Tenerife. Lined with lush palm trees and picturesque mountains, visitors will find spaces to play volleyball or partake in yoga classes, as well as having sun loungers, showers and restaurants nearby.

A short drive from the city, Anaga Country Park is a beautifully preserved area of imposing mountains, deep valleys and numerous beaches. Here, you’ll find a plethora of native flora and fauna across the 35,800 acres of land.
