My friend and I were on the Marella Dream sailing from Malaga on the 8th March 2020. We had a fantastic three days going ashore at Oporto, Lisbon and Cádiz then the Coronavirus set in preventing us going into Casablanca and Gibraltar. Fortunately Malaga let us dock 1 day early we were the last cruise ship allowed into port and we got home on our scheduled flight. I cannot praise Captain Steve and all the amazing crew enough for how they looked after us and kept us informed as they didn’t know what the future held for them.

Just got back from the Ancient Affair cruise. We were a group of 16 and what a fabulous cruise experience this was. Six of the group had never cruised and they were very impressed with the Marella Dream ship. Every aspect of the cruise was excellent - and we were lucky with the November weather. We will be booking again - all of us I expect!

Piombino
DAY 419 Jul 2019
Time at Port: from 7 AM to 7 PM
Piombino is the second Tuscan port after Livorno, perfect for quickly reaching the Island of Elba. It is thought that the first human settlements date back to the Etruscan civilisation (between the 8th and the 2nd century BC), as evidenced by the tombs discovered at the nearby Populonia and Baratti. In fact, you can visit the Archaeological Park of Baratti and Populonia in the company of a guide, to discover the necropolises and acropolis.
Things to do in Piombino:
Gulf of Baratti
The Gulf of Baratti owes its name to the town of the same name located on the coast. The area is known for its Etruscan burial mound - testimony to the ancient civilisation of central Italy - which today are part of Baratti and Populonia Archaeological Park.
Archaeological Museum of Populonia
The Archaeological Museum of Populonia is home to numerous finds from prehistoric and ancient times. One particularly special item among these is a silver amphora dating back to the 4th century AD, which is believed to have come from the city of Antioch after being lost during a shipwreck.
Populonia Archaeological Park
Established in 1998, Baratti and Populonia Archaeological Park is part of the whole of the Val di Cornia Parks. Here you can explore the ancient city of Populonia, the only Etruscan urban settlement on the sea.

A welcoming beach packed full of Blue Flag destinations and plenty of opportunities to go hiking or biking as well as, of course, swimming.
Corniche Beach
Complete with small funfair, café bar, and disabled access, this beach is a popular destination for families looking to make the most of the famously fine sand and calm waters protected by the harbour walls on sunny days.
Espace Georges Brassens
Sète’s most popular museum is dedicated, as the name suggests, to the celebrated local musician and poet Georges Brassens. Here you’ll find fascinating guided tours of the exhibitions of photos, letters, and music as well as clips from live concerts.
Mont Saint-Clair
With its iconic cross monument, this is the perfect spot for 360 degree views of the city and canals of Sète, the surrounding landscapes, and way out to sea. You will also find here the Chapel of Our Lady of Salette, with its beautiful colourful frescoes.
Musee Paul Valery
Opening in 1970, this engrossing museum has hundreds of works by the artist from whom it takes its name, as well as a good number of manuscripts. Additional collections include pieces from the 19th century, mostly representing the city of Sète itself.
