My second time on Magellan (first was last year when I did the six week Amazon, west Indies and Azores). We booked the Christmas cruise to the West Indies and Mexico. After an unfortunate start (the CMV coach from Victoria to Tilbury suffered a puncture, and we had to wait for a replacement, causing us to almost miss the boat!), we went on to have a fantastic cruise with CMV. An important part of any cruise, for us, is the dining experience and we had requested a table of eight. Unfortunately there were only two other people on our designated table in the Kensington, so we were happy to accept an invitation from some new friends we had made on the ship to join them in the Waldorf - we were lucky to meet so many interesting and friendly people. The Magellan is a bit of a 'no frills' ship, which is reflected in the competitive fares, and lots of people were moaning about this and that - mostly fairly trivial stuff. The itinerary was great, with the exception of La Romana, with a good range of excursions on offer (mostly reasonable value). We went 'off piste' in Ocho Rios, Jamaica, and decided to do our own thing and book a local taxi to the Dunns River Falls and then a bit of sightseeing and on to a beach, however we were squarely ripped off by the taxi driver, but had a good time anyway. Food was very good, and service generally OK. Pleased to report that the Air Conditioning on this ship has improved, and there was no sign of the mystery bug that seemed to be going round the ship last year

The itinerary was very good as was the food onboard. Entertainment was a bit repetitious but ok. I contacted a chest infection on onboard and fell victim to the independent med centre whose charges were exorbitant and some checks wholly unnecessary. I am taking this up with Cruise and Maritime.

Returned last week from the Caribbean on the Magellan. Have to say I found the cruise BORING. No proper daytime activities and a 45 minute show in the evenings are just not enough. Stupid quiz games and karaoke are not what I want to see! I was moved from an inner cabin to an outside cabin on the same level at the rear of the ship. Very noisy. WiFi I paid £59 for which you were never able to use! Food was warm and in the buffet, very repetitive. First member of staff did not know how to make a cup of English tea. Reception, they did not understand a lot of questions asked. It is always buy one get one free. I paid three times the price of some as a solo passenger. Think the whole price systems needs to be overhauled. I was looking forward to this Caribbean cruise but was a big disappointment!
