Maple Leaf Train Journey
The Maple Leaf Train journey will take approximately nine and a half hours to complete. These will just give passengers a chance to stretch their legs and get a few moments of fresh air.
Transfers
It’s important to note that transfers are not included in this Amtrak experience; this means you will need to make your own way both to and from the train stations highlighted in your itinerary (unless other arrangements are made).
Accessibility
This train is wheelchair accessible, with accessible seating and a designated area for wheelchairs, but there are some details you should be aware of if you’re planning on booking this experience as a wheelchair user or someone with mobility issues.
You should highlight you need an accessible seat or wheelchair space ahead of time, be that to your travel consultant or Amtrak
Amtrak can accommodate wheelchairs that are up to 70 cm wide and 122 cm long when occupied, with a minimum of 5 cm of ground clearance; there is also an upper weight limit of 273 kg when occupied
Amtrak permits both manual and battery-powered wheelchairs / mobility scooters that meet these specifications.
Amtrak will assist you in boarding and detraining with detachable bridge plates at platforms, station-based mobile lifts, and ramps (where necessary)
If you use a mobility device that is not collapsible, you must remain seated in your device en route to your destination
If you exceed the limitations, Amtrak may still be able to accommodate you – depending on the specifics of your journey. It’s recommended that you contact Amtrak if you’re unsure or need assistance with this.
Service animals are also permitted on Amtrak trains and will be permitted in all areas where passengers are allowed, but they must remain on the floor due to limited space.
Dietary Restrictions
Kosher meals are available upon request, but must be requested at least 72 hours in advance. Passengers travelling in Coach class will be charged a $40 fee per Kosher meal.
Vegan meals are also available in limited quantities, and no advanced notice is required on Amtrak trains with a cafe (such as the Maple Leaf Train).
In addition to this, Amtrak does not offer meals specifically designed to accommodate the following dietary restrictions:
Low fat
Low cholesterol
Low sodium
Gluten free
Wheat free
Peanut free
Most meals are not prepared on the dining car and Amtrak is unable to guarantee a peanut-free or allergen-free trip; so, it’s highly recommended that passengers with severe allergies take all the necessary medical precautions to prepare for the risk of exposure.
