Found in Puerto Chiapas, the Izapa Maya ruins is a pre-Columbian Mayan archaeological site with an abundance of history to be found. Wildlife thrives in the area that spans over 1.4 miles, including jaguar, deer and eagles, to name just a few.

The southern-most city in Mexico, Tapachula was founded by the Aztecs in 1486. It has since grown in culture, history and wealth, with the Soconusco Archaeological Museum presenting many major artefacts from over time, including a golden skull. In the Cordillera de Tilarán, close to Juntas, lies the Curi Cancha Wildlife Refuge. A private wildlife sanctuary, it preserves cloud forest and is one kilometres or so before the renowned Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve. An UNESCO World Heritage Site located in the suburbs of Panama City, Panama Viejo is the last remaining part of the original Panama City, the former capital of this nation and a settlement that was destroyed by Welsh privateer Henry Morgan in 1671. Home to several unique ruins, this historic site offers visitors an insight into Panama City during the 16th century and the tumultuous start to this city’s colonial period.

A unique museum designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, his first design for Latin America, this modern attraction is focused fully on exploring the natural history of Panama – and the personal impact of humans on the environment, both Panamanian and otherwise. Located on the Amador Causeway, you’ll enjoy fantastic views of Panama City and the surrounding seascape from the grounds of this museum, and the bright exterior of Biomuseo is a sight to behold from afar too.

Consecrated as a Roman Catholic Church in 1796, following over 100 years of construction, the Metropolitan Cathedral of Panama City was designed by military engineer Nicolas Rodriguez and boasts two white-plastered towers flanking an intricately designed Jesuit style façade. One of the most unique churches in Latin America, it’s a stone’s throw from Plaza de la Catedral and Plaza de la Independencia, both open areas where you’ll find interesting museums, restaurants, and more.

The Miraflores Visitor Center provides fantastic insight into the history of the Panama Canal, through films, exhibitions and observation decks overlooking the Panama Canal locks. Visitors can join guided tours and enjoy delicious cuisine and souvenirs.

Whilst stopping off on the Panama Canal, if you have the time, a trip to Casco Viejo is well worth the effort. Within the historic district of the city, it’s a designated World Heritage Site which was built in the late 17th century. With stunning architecture, restaurants, shops and more, this picturesque area is frequently listed as one of the top things to do whilst in Panama.

If you’re looking for breathtaking views out towards the city, head to Ancon Hill. spanning 199 metres, this impressive hill is a popular site to visit whilst in the area of Ancon or Panama City.

As well as a gorgeous beach, Palm Beach boasts an old Dutch Windmill ideal for a photo, a wonderful butterfly farm to be immersed in colour inside the jungle-like enclosure, and a bird sanctuary complete with observation tower for unrivalled views.

Take a trip up to the top of the observation tower for great views out over this wetlands nature reserve. Here, you’ll find up to eighty different species of migratory birds, from herons and pelicans to cormorants and falcons.

This non-profit park area is the place to go for some tranquil downtime as you explore the serene waterfalls and pools that are home to brightly plumed flamingos. The gardens are also home to rescued wildlife such as other birds and reptiles as well as boasting some giant tree species.

Covering a 22-block area, this exciting part of downtown offers plenty to see and do from Garand Opera House, History Center, Art Museum and plenty of dining options and evening entertainment just a short distance from the cruise terminals.

A beautiful and historic house in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, the Bonnet House is included on the American National Register of Historic Places. It was built by prominent artist Frederic Clay Bartlett and has picturesque architecture and a botanical garden.
