Carnival Cruises Announce Makeover of Carnival Triumph

1st August 2018

This well-loved, American cruise line has decided to give one of their classic ships something of a rejuvenation, in fact, a $200 million rejuvenation. Having been sailing since 1999, naturally, Carnival Cruises feel that the ship is due for a facelift, and with it will come a whole host of exciting new additions relating to onboard accommodation, dining, and activities. Find out more about what will be included in the makeover of Carnival Triumph.

Will Carnival Triumph have a New Name?

Yes. She will be joining Carnival Cruises’ Sunshine class, and a fitting new name will be attributed after she has been remodelled. She will enter a dry dock period in March 2019, in Cadiz, Spain, and will then return to the seas at the end of April after a naming ceremony, after which she’ll be known as Carnival Sunrise.

How will the accommodation on Carnival Triumph change?

All staterooms will benefit from a refit and will be decorated in bright colours and soft pastel hues reminiscent of the cruise line’s itineraries in the sunny islands of the Caribbean. As well as this, the two Captain’s Suites, in particular, will boast some stunning changes; for example, the windows will be floor-to-ceiling, offering the perfect view of the surrounding ocean.

How many new things will there be to do onboard?

Carnival Triumph already offers a great range of exciting onboard activities and pastimes, from the Dive-In movies to the waterslides and Seuss at Sea. But, in true Carnival Cruises fashion, more and more activities are being thought up all the time. Here are some of our favourite new options that will be found on Carnival Sunrise;

  • Serenity Adult-Only Retreat – ideal for when you need just a little ‘me-time’, and to relax in a perfectly tranquil setting complete with superb sea views.

  • The Warehouse – a great space for letting go and having a laugh, where you can play a range of exhilarating video and arcade games with all the family.

  • WaterWorks – cool down in this brilliant water park, under the drench bucket or zooming down the tunnel or twister slides.

What will be improved when it comes to dining?

    There will be some new restaurants brought onboard the ship, including some real Carnival Cruises favourites;

  • Lido Marketplace – for poolside snacks including lobster rolls, pizzas, and frozen yoghurt
  • Cherry on Top – a fun candy shop will all sorts of sweets and gifts
  • JavaBlue Café – a trendy coffee shop offering classics as alcoholic coffees
  • Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse – a casual BBQ joint with al fresco seating
  • Cucina del Capitano – for delicious Italian meals in a family-style environment
  • The Chef’s Table – for an extra special evening with a number of courses
  • Fahrenheit 555 Steakhouse – for succulent steak and first class service
  • Bonsai Express – a popular venue serving a range of delicate sushi and sashimi

Will there be any new public lounges onboard?

Yes, cruisers can expect a few new haunts in which to spend their evenings onboard. Enjoy a crisp beer or some of the Caribbean’s finest rums in the RedFrog Pub, or sing along with live entertainment in Piano Bar 88. Or, spend the whole night in the Limelight Lounge for some good comedy before it transforms into a nightclub, or head to the new, multi-purpose Liquid Lounge where you’ll find all kinds of entertainment day and night.

The design of the ship seeks to place the sea at the centre of the guests’ attention, with ample chance to admire the view. There are panoramic glass elevators, glass-floored walkways, and the brilliant Bridge of Sighs – a glass-bottomed bridge located at the aft of the ship, at 40 metres above the sea.

Other features onboard include MSC’s well-loved F1 simulators, a full-sized bowling alley, arcade games, a zip line, and 7 original West End style shows. As well as entertainment opportunities, there are a number of great places to dine. Butcher’s Cut for superb steak, Teppanyaki for a range of Asian cuisine, and Ocean Cay for creative seafood dishes are just a few of your choices.

    Carnival Cruises: Carnival Panorama

    Marella Cruises: Marella Explorer 2

Marella Cruises’ latest addition has been superbly designed for its purpose as an adult-only ship. The prime social spot on Marella ships – The Veranda – is twice the size as on other ships, and will be the place for sunbathing, meeting fellow cruisers, and sipping on cocktails. Marella Explorer 2 will also boast the brilliant Champneys Spa onboard – a perfect venue for cruisers to relax and treat themselves to a little pampering.

Cruisers can choose from destinations like Venice, Rome, Dubrovnik, Livorno, and Croatia among others; all fabulous places where it’s possible to indulge in delicious local food, learn about history and culture, or simply relax in a café by the water.

Marella Explorer 2 will accommodate up to 1,814 guests, and 40% of its cabins will have balconies. This all-inclusive ship will surely provide many adults with the ideal holiday to escape and recharge.

So You Think You Know the Caribbean?

    1st February 2018

A well-known, highly popular cruising destination, many visitors to the Caribbean simply go to enjoy the pristine beaches and sunny weather. While relaxing in the Caribbean is of course a fantastic way to holiday, there is so much more to this part of the world just waiting to be discovered. Here are ten facts you might not know about the Caribbean.

    1. The sunny island of Barbados is reportedly the only foreign land that former US president George Washington ever visited. This was in 1751, when he was just 19, when he visited with his half-brother Lawrence, in order to try to ease Lawrence’s tuberculosis.

    2. The Caribbean is home to some of the world’s hottest chilli peppers. The famed Moruga Scorpion chilli is native to Trinidad; measuring more than 2 million on the Scoville scale, this is the world’s second hottest chilli – falling behind the California Reaper.

    3. The Caribbean Sea is one of the deepest seas in the world (discounting oceans). At 7,686 metres (25,220 feet) deep, it’s over 2,000 metres deeper than the Mediterranean Sea which measures in at 5,267 metres.

    4. Princess Juliana Airport in St Maarten is renowned for its close proximity to Maho Beach. The beach has become a popular tourist attraction not only for its white sands and warm waters, but because tourists can sit and watch planes fly between just 100 and 200 feet or so overhead!

    5. While only around 26 of the Caribbean islands are widely recognised tourist destinations, there are actually over 7,000 islands in the archipelago! The largest is Cuba, and the smallest inhabited island is thought to be Saba, which is just 13km2.

    6. Beautiful St Lucia boasts many stunning things to see and do, but one of the most unique is the drive-in volcano. Known as Sulpher Springs, or Soufriere Volcano, it’s possible to drive right up to the crater and see the exhilarating volcanic action for yourself.

    7. Although the English, French, Dutch, and Spanish have all had Caribbean colonies over the years, it was originally just the Spanish who settled there - after Christopher Columbus discovered the land in 1492. Other nations took control after the collapse of the Spanish Empire in the 17th century.

    8. The warm climes of the Caribbean make for a great environment for various produce to grow. The main exports from this part of the world are bananas, sugar, coffee, and coconuts. Fuel, tobacco, and rum are also exported all over the world from the Caribbean islands.

    9. Those interested in modern aviation are in for a treat in Barbados. One of British Airway’s retired Concorde jets remains in their Grantley Adams International Airport, and it’s possible for tourists to go and see this majestic plane.

    10. The Caribbean is well-known for the prominence of pirates throughout history. It’s likely that most islands would have seen some activity, but the three main hives were Tortuga Island (close to Haiti), Port Royal in Jamaica, and Nassau in the Bahamas.

On a cruise to the Caribbean, be sure to get chatting with locals and no doubt you’ll discover plenty more interesting facts and secrets about the islands. Stay in touch on Facebook or Twitter and let us know what you find out!

    Water activities

Mid ship pools are a great place to relax and watch the big screen or on most Carnival ships, there’s a second pool catching the breeze at the aft of the ship. Settle in for a night at the cinema from the comfort of the poolside lounge chairs or even the pool. With movies of different themes such as action, comedy and date night and plenty of blankets and popcorn to go round, we wouldn’t recommend you pass up a starry evening under the stars.

Ever thought you could say that you went on a bike ride high above deck on a ship? This is only possible on Carnival Vista. Open to all of the family; why not compete against each other as you zip safely around the suspended course that’s equipped with an epic view.

    carnival skyride

How are you with heights? The onboard ropes course is a fun way to take on a challenge you wouldn’t come across in everyday life. Of course you’ll be safely strapped in, so why not test your abilities and brave the SkyCourse.

    Hasbro Game Show

Put your gaming skills to the test in an onstage competition against other cruisers. With games such as CONNECT 4 BASKETBALL, SIMON FLASH and OPERATION SAM DUNK, have fun teaming up with the family to win great prizes.

    What our customers say

"I booked a Fred Olsen cruise with IGLU last month and was so impressed by the service I received. The staff member I spoke to was Kimberley and she was exemplary. Capable, kind, professional, patient, friendly and knowledgeable. She went through every step of the way calmly and thoroughly. IGLU were recommended to me by friends and I have no hesitation in passing the recommendation along. Well done IGLU and thank you. "

    (March 2019)

"So easy to deal with, I studied the Cruise I wanted, did my research with different company's and returned to Iglu. I had three quotes matching Iglu’s cost, but with one phone call they beat the price themselves by £40 without me even asking, how easy was that! "
