    Accommodation & The Retreat

Expert designer Kelly Hoppen MBE’s work from Celebrity Edge will continue fleetwide, where her stamp of excellence will be left in all Suite Class staterooms. From the cashmere mattresses to the airy, spacious ambience, guests will find a home away from home with an extra touch of luxury.

Suite Class guests can also enjoy exclusive new venues. The Retreat Sundeck and The Retreat Lounge aim to emulate the atmosphere of a top-class resort, with plenty of opportunity to sit back, enjoy a cocktail and take in the serenity of a lounge that’s been made exclusively for you. As the day moves into the evening, Suite Class guests can then sit down at the private restaurant, Luminae, where they enjoy a unique menu created by a Michelin-starred chef that can’t be found anywhere else.

The accommodation redesign is not limited to just Suite Class cabins either. All staterooms of all classes will be redesigned and refreshed from top to bottom, featuring a neutral colour palette and clean lines to recreate that luxuriously homely feel.

    Bars & Restaurants

To enhance the culinary experience Celebrity Cruises are famous for, main restaurants receive a glamorous make-over with many elegant new touches. The Oceanview Café in particular will emulate a spacious marketplace and introduce more international options that are inspired by each destination.

Excitingly, Le Petit Chef, a hugely popular virtual dining experience, will be coming to all Celebrity ships at the onboard restaurant, Qsine. Marvel at the animated chef who prepares your chosen dish before your very eyes, before it’s presented to you in delicious reality.

    Onboard Venues

Social spaces across the fleet will have a new and improved look, from the bars to the spas to the boutique shopping. With more than 40 crafts beers on offer, the expanded Gastrobar makes a great place to find a new favourite. Thanks to Revolution, whether you’re in the mood to catch up with new friends, or simply looking for a place to get stuck into your favourite book, you’ll find redesigned areas perfect for you.

As well as this, in collaboration with Canyon Ranch, spas and fitness centres will be expended upon to offer a range of new and improved features. In addition, more AquaClass staterooms will be inspired by that serene spa aesthetic and situated just a few feet from the spa and fitness centres. From fabulous new treatments and massages, to fun fitness classes, Celebrity Cruises have created the ultimate cruise fleet with your wellbeing in mind.

Finally, for those who love to treat loved ones (and themselves!), you’ll be delighted to know the boutique shopping has expanded to welcome new, high-end brands with plenty of designer names, as well as a digital photo gallery where you can browse all your favourite holiday snaps.

    Envrionmental Responsibility

Celebrity Cruises have also worked hard to reduce their environmental impact, by looking even at the smallest of details on their ships. With the aim of increasing fuel efficiency and reducing emissions fleetwide, this cruise line will not only allow cruisers to experience the world in a new way, but also protect it at the same time.

A Big Thank You! Interview with Voyages to Antiquity Competition Winner

    17th July 2018

Catch Up With Voyages To Antiquity Competition Winner, Martin Myers.

In cooperation with Voyages to Antiquity, Iglu Cruise hosted a competition with the prize of a fantastic cruise for two on board Aegean Odyssey from Bordeaux to London. To win the competition we asked Iglu Cruise fans to say why they wanted to sail with Voyages to Antiquity in one sentence. Over a thousand cruise fans responded but it was Martin Myers who was lucky enough to win the fiercely close competition. His winning answer was “Intimate ship, included excursions and tips, overnights in port and informal dining- What's not to like!?” Martin’s winning response may express everything that makes Voyages to Antiquity a cruiser’s favourite, but he hasn’t finished having his say. Here, we catch up with him after his dream prize cruise with Voyages to Antiquity and see just how he got on.

How did you find Aegean Odyssey?

We then boarded Aegean Odyssey again a seamless process and were escorted to our cabin where our luggage was already present, we then began to notice that within a few short hours that all the staff were not only incredibly friendly and professional but already knew our names without need for introduction, this blew us away and added another level to an already very high standard of hospitality.

How was your accommodation on Aegean Odyssey?

The cabin was spacious, light and well-appointed with a good sized bathroom. This was the first time we had sailed on a small ship and both myself and Lee were not at all phased by this, in fact quite the reverse as we had everything on board required. As we toured the ship in more detail during our sea day it became apparent that the standard of maintenance, cleanliness and decor both inside and outside were second to none, along with some well thought-out rooms such as the Library, Observation Lounge and Lido Deck where the Tea & Coffee station was a great addition.

What entertainment was there on Aegean Odyssey?

We were invited on one evening to pre-dinner drinks followed by dinner with Voyages to Antiquity’s General Manager Mr John Kain. At first, we weren’t sure exactly what his role was but the charming Charlene at the reception desk nicely educated us. Some fellow passengers were also invited and the evening was a great success, of note too was the friendliness of the other passengers and the camaraderie that was fostered whilst out on excursions and dining. The lectures on board were well presented. In particular, the one given by Mr John Hughes about the Eden Project was excellent as we are both keen gardeners and John's knowledge of plants was extensive.

How was Aegean Odyssey’s food and service?

The meals in both the Terrace Grill and Marco Polo Restaurant were faultless from start to finish. This was not only in terms of choice and quality, but in innovative menus featuring new ingredients and styles of cooking. This all lead to a sense of care being taken not only in preparation but in delivery as well. We also enjoyed the wines which were served with dinner and the level of service in both areas was outstanding with nothing being too much trouble as all the waiting staff were brilliant. Special mention has to go to Maureen in the Terrace Grill and Charleston Lounge and to our cabin steward Melody who made sure we were well looked-after.

How were Voyages to Antiquity’s excursions and tours?

On the second day after breakfast although the weather was not kind we did enjoy our visit to some of Bordeaux’s famous vineyards. We had a very informative tour of the town and saw beautiful countryside. Here, we were able to see the vines, caves and the processing area where the wine was made along with a tasting in a very pleasant setting.

The port of Falmouth gave us an opportunity to see St Michael's Mount which has long been on our bucketlist and in Dartmouth we were able to visit Agatha Christie’s holiday home Greenway again. This was some where we had been meaning to see, however, the icing on the cake was that in Dartmouth we were able to meet up with my mother and brother who live locally. We spent some quality time with them quayside in glorious Devon weather. The sail-away from Dartmouth was unforgettable as it seemed the entire town had come to the banks of the River Dart to wave us goodbye.

Would you recommend a cruise on Aegean Odyssey with Voyages to Antiquity?

Yes! Our time on the trip was fantastic from start to finish, all the arrangements were seamless and the quality and location of the hotel in Bordeaux could not have been better as the visit coincided not only with the tall ships being moored along the banks of the River Garonne but also the annual wine festival all directly outside the Hôtel Mercure Bordeaux Cité Mondiale Centre Ville, where we also enjoyed spectacular views of the city from the 7th floor breakfast restaurant.

What was your highlight with Voyages to Antiquity?

I could go on and on as on as we felt like we had won the lottery! But, we’d have to say the ship was by far the highlight of our stay. Our time onboard Aegean Odyssey was unforgettable for so many reasons and we would like to thank all those at Iglu Cruise who made this possible.

A Customer Review of the Rhine with Emerald Waterways

    16th July 2018

Some of our lovely customers – Marjorie and Bob Hewiitt – have recently returned from a wonderful European river cruise on the Rhine, with the brilliant Emerald Waterways. Luckily for us they were kind enough to share their thoughts about the experience in this helpful and authentic review.

    Amsterdam

The following comments are honest, and include opinions gathered from the many other passengers who we came into contact with on our cruise. River cruising is a far more intimate affair than deep sea cruising in large ships, and the Emerald Dawn held just 180 passengers as opposed to the several thousand in a deep sea cruise ship. This meant that we not only enjoyed repeated contact with our fellow passengers, but formed good friendships with a number of like-minded people. If anything, however, it was a common view that this ship was a little too large and many passengers reported a preference for smaller ships with say 100 guests.

It was clear however that the vast majority of passengers were very happy with the holiday, and with the general management of the ship. In fact we only met one passenger who was unhappy with his holiday, but his main complaint seemed to be that it suffered in comparison with a more expensive experience. Perhaps it would help if I broke down the different elements of the holiday separately.

    The Ship

The Emerald Dawn is a relatively new ship, and this showed in the general condition of the fittings. In fact we have to say that it was absolutely the cleanest vessel we have yet travelled in. Everything was sparkling clean from cabins to common areas. Robert, the hotel manager, deserves much praise for his attention to detail and for the incredible attitude of his employees. Bali, our cabin steward, kept the place spotless without being in any way obtrusive.

The management of the ship was excellent. The captain and crew were highly professional and provided a smooth and trouble free experience. One, and possibly the greatest attribute, was the incredible energy and humour of Alexander Berger - the cruise director. He seemed to be involved in everything, and kept things moving seamlessly through the day. His commentary on the afternoon when we passed the castles on our way to the Lorelei was very informative and amusing. His two evening events, one a form of dance bingo and the other a game of lies, were a triumph. He really got everyone involved and a good time was had by all. He definitely deserves a high level of praise, as do the staff on the reception desk who worked tirelessly to resolve any query which arose.

    Cologne

    Embarkation

We thought this went seamlessly, but there was some criticism that we had to spend many hours in the lounge awaiting the message that our cabins were ready. I think many passengers would have spent the afternoon in Amsterdam had they known, but felt it necessary to stay in the lounge until called for.

    Disembarkation

The organisation for getting off the boat was brilliant. Once again Alex was to the fore moving cases from cabin to bus. We went down to breakfast at 7am, and there he was beavering away with luggage; what an asset to the ship, he truly deserves a medal.

    Food

The general opinion was that the food onboard was excellent. Of course individual customers noted that they had enjoyed better previously, but it always transpired that they were comparing it with more expensive holidays. There was some irritation with the queues at breakfast particularly when a queue for one item meant joining another one for additional items. A little further thought may be helpful if a solution could be found which removed the need to join multiple queues. We coped with this by arriving in good time, and joining different queues with one getting toast and eggs while the other dealt with other items such as bacon and sausages, etc. These are small things however, and I have only mentioned them as the issue was raised by many of our fellow passengers. Overall we thoroughly enjoyed all the meals and found the restaurant staff to be extremely helpful and attentive. In short; full marks for food from us.

    Strasbourg

    Excursions

These were well-organised and very interesting. On the whole the guides were good, but the lady who looked after us on the final day in Strasbourg was exceptional. The coaches were well-appointed and very clean, and the drivers were careful and helpful.

    Entertainment

The entertainment onboard was relatively low-key compared with the shows provided on the large ocean going cruise ships. Nevertheless, the cruise director Alex did a great job on a number of occasions. A violinist came onboard one day and two classical singers on another. The resident pianist, Benny, did a great job and proved to be a popular member of the team. Given the size of the ship the entertainment was perfectly adequate and once again the cruise director proved his worth.

    Overall Impression

We have enjoyed a significant number of cruise holidays, both deep sea and river. This was one of the best. As we have already noted, the ship was quiet and clean and the staff were ever helpful and courteous. The food was excellent and the entertainment wholly adequate. Our fellow passengers were similar to ourselves. There were no children onboard, a ‘leisure’ option was provided for excursions, there was no abuse of alcohol or any gratuitous noise. All passengers arrived on time for excursions and the whole experience was one of respect and calm.

    Basel

This is definitely a holiday which I would recommend to anyone looking for a river cruise; we have no complaints to report and would be happy to use Emerald Waterways again. In fact, we are already booked onto a cruise on the Douro River next May and are looking forward to that.

If Marjorie and Bob have inspired you, take a closer look at the places you could discover on a Rhine river cruise.

With a real love of fitness and well-being, it will be no surprise to learn about the kind of activities Frankie and Wayne chose.

Making the most of the local scenery, the pair chose an active excursion of kayaking in the beautiful waters of Geirangerfjord, where they could bask in the incredible views all around. While onboard their cruise ship Frankie and Wayne spent time doing an upbeat couples work out, as well as taking on the onboard rock-climbing wall together. With a little playful competition the two of them were able to work on their well-being and had some fun doing so.

    What our customers say

"I booked a Fred Olsen cruise with IGLU last month and was so impressed by the service I received. The staff member I spoke to was Kimberley and she was exemplary. Capable, kind, professional, patient, friendly and knowledgeable. She went through every step of the way calmly and thoroughly. IGLU were recommended to me by friends and I have no hesitation in passing the recommendation along. Well done IGLU and thank you. "

    Christina
    (March 2019)

"So easy to deal with, I studied the Cruise I wanted, did my research with different company's and returned to Iglu. I had three quotes matching Iglu’s cost, but with one phone call they beat the price themselves by £40 without me even asking, how easy was that! "
