One in a million

Cruise lovers are sometimes picky about which line they want to cruise with, but one thing is certain, Costa Cruises is among the top choices.

Costa has announced that it will smash its yearly target for bookings, which stands at one million. The cruise line has had 880,000 bookings already - and that's just up to May.

This number is the same as the number of bookings Costa Cruises had for the entire 2006, something that shows Costa Cruises is growing in popularity. This could further swell following the delivery of the line's newest ship, Costa Serena, billed as "the new home of the gods" by the cruise line.

Costa Serena can carry some 3,780 guests on board, the same as sister ship the Costa Concordia.

Three more ships are in the works for the cruise line, which should mean a further 12,000 to 15,000 guests will be able to indulge themselves in a Costa Cruises holiday by 2010.

High life on the high seas

The launch of a new brand from Celebrity Cruises looks set to take cruising to the next level of luxury.

Azamara Cruises will feature two deluxe ships, Azamara Quest and Azamara Journey, which will provide the 710 guests on board a luxury cruise experience to Europe, Asia or South America.

The 390 crew members on board give the ships a guests-to-crew ratio of better than two to one, meaning that there will be plenty of attention given to passengers.

Both Azamara Quest and Azamara Journey feature a wine bar, a piano bar, live entertainment, two restaurants, a spa and wellness centre, and daily enrichment programmes.

Staterooms onboard have, along

with additional extras, plasma TVs, a daily fruit basket, fresh flowers, 24-hour room service, afternoon canapes and personal stationery.

The suites also have two nights of complimentary dining, butler service, complimentary laundry pressing, in-room non-alcoholic specialty coffees, afternoon tea and a bottle of champagne.
