newest superliner Ventura
, due to be launched in mid-April, is on her way to Southampton, after setting sail from her Italian shipyard at the weekend.
Once in service, Ventura
will be the largest cruise ship built exclusively for British holidaymakers, alongside the world's largest passenger ship - Independence of the Seas
, a ship belonging to Royal Caribbean Cruises
.Independence of the Seas
is scheduled for launch at the end of April.
So how do the two mammoth cruise ships measure up against each other? Independence of the Seas
is longer - if it was stood vertically it would be taller than the Eiffel Tower - and Independence can hold more passengers, Ventura
edges its rival in the culinary stakes - offering fine dining from Marco Pierre White's The White Room and an Asian fusion restaurant.
Children may find they prefer Ventura
for facilties, having the pick of Mr Bump, Noddy and a full scale circus, although Independence of the Seas
does offer a waterpark and arcade facilities.
For facilities, Independence of the Seas'
FlowRider surf simulator, climbing wall, jogging track and skating rink are second to none, while both cruise ships provide spa facilities.
Whether on a family break, couples holiday or travelling solo, choosing between the two is likely to be a tough call.
