"We are very pleased that this important contract with MSC is now confirmed," said Jacques Hardelay, General Manager of STX France, “and we look forward to continuing the long-standing relationship between the teams of MSC Cruises and STX France for the successful delivery of this magnificent vessel”.
Following this morning's press conference in St-Naizzare, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, along with Gianluigi Aponte, President of MSC, Mr Piefrancesco Vago, MSC Cruises CEO and Mr Hardeley, General Manager of STX France.
The all important factor in the success of the project was the financial backing provided by French financial institutions, and especially by Coface, the French Export Credit Agency, making it possible for the vessel to be delivered as required by MSC Cruises by the end of spring 2012.
Pierfrancesco Vago, CEO of MSC Cruises, added: “We are delighted at the confirmation of this important investment, a sign of the success of our ambitious growth strategy, and we would like to thank all those who have made it possible. Together with STX France, we are now keen to focus our energies on further enhancing MSC Cruises' leading positioning within the world’s cruise industry. MSC Fantastica will build on the success of the ‘Fantasia’ prototype, appreciated by more and more guests, thanks to innovate features like the MSC Yacht Club, the ship within a ship offering unprecedented levels of privacy and personalized service.”

]]>The agreement signed on 7th July 2009 between MSC Cruises and UNICEF is a unique “Get on board for Children” project resulting in a three-year partnership to make an impact and assist disadvantaged children in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo. To get on board with the project, over 7000 people living in Brazil were interviewed to find out and list their urgent needs in their communities. The survey highlighted their lack of basic educational services and absence of free transportation in schools. Also over 200 'Youth Ambassadors' were selected, and trained to encourage the young and old people of the local communities to take part in workshops to map out their current situations.
The objective of the Platform for Urban Centres agreement is to boost opportunities in all areas of life, from education, health and social awareness, to protection from HIV/AIDS and sport. Thanks can largely be given to the “MSC for UNICEF” partnership, which mainly support the educational needs of the Project.
“…before there was no sense in life (…) the Platform gave me the opportunities, now I know what it feels like sitting with a debating team and listing what improvements are necessary for my community…” said Michel Santos Ribeiro, Youth Ambassador in São Paulo.
MSC Cruises aim to... Gain the support of schools, organise talks on improvement of school education, support and provide training for staff to and run workshops for school teachers and young children; advising on how to improve education, involve local communities and changing methods of teaching to cater to specific needs. The aim is to get as many people involved and following them as possible.

The fleet cruises in the Mediterranean,Northern Europe, the Atlantic Ocean, the Caribbean, North America and Canada, South America, the Indian Ocean and South and West Africa. MSC Cruises cares about the welfare of children, and tries to get as many people involved in its campaigns as possible.
