According to Micky Arison, chief executive officer of Carnival Corporation, which owns the likes of Cunard Cruises and P&O Cruises, the industry takes its environmental responsibility seriously, reports the Daily Echo.

Outlining the group's responsibilities as part of the 2010 cruise report, he said customers expect the highest standards when it comes to protecting the environment.

"We are dedicated to preserving the marine environment in which we operate, and therefore believe it is our duty to introduce environmental practices which set a high standard of excellence and responsibility," he explained.

Mr Arison added that operators are reducing their energy consumption every year through a wide range of solutions, including using new paints and hull coatings, "to simply slowing the ships down".

The company predicts the UK cruise market will double to three million annual passengers in a decade.

UK cruise holidays expected to double by 2020
The company, which is Britain's biggest cruise operator, said the UK cruise industry will double in size over the next ten years with around three million annual holidays.

Micky Arison, chief executive of Carnival Corporation, made the prediction in a foreword contained in the Cruise Report 2010 from Carnival Cruises UK, which is owned by the firm.

Focusing ten years into the future, he said: "I can see no reason why it [the UK cruise market] should not double in size to match the kind of growth the market has experienced in North America."

The forecast represents a 100 per cent growth to the current level of 1.5 million UK cruise holidays every year.

An estimated 1.65 million British cruise holidays are expected to take place in 2010, according to predictions from the Passenger Shipping Association.

Carnival Cruise Lines highlights holidaying fun with new adverts Carnival Cruises has launched a new television advertising campaign designed to highlight the unique and genuine, participatory fun atmosphere awaiting holidaymakers aboard its vessels.

The adverts, one of which showcases the experience through the eyes of a teenager, remain true to the brand's existing 'Fun For All. All For Fun' tagline.

Another spot captures the moment of transformation onboard a Carnival vessel, while a third commercial showcases the kind if fun groups of people can have while at sea.

According to Jim Berra, chief marketing officer for Carnival Cruise Lines, the advertising campaign is aimed at highlighting what holidaymakers can expected when opting for one of the firm's ships.

"The new work does a great job of portraying the social and participatory nature of the Carnival vacation experience, capturing those moments that make our cruises so uniquely memorable and enjoyable for our guests."

Such campaigns could result in the 1.65 million 2010 UK cruise holidays predicted by the Passenger Shipping Association surpassing the expected mark.

Carnival Cruises announces aqua park contest
With work on the 130,000-tonne vessel still ongoing, the company has revealed that it will boast the longest water slide at sea, measuring 303 ft in length and stretching over four stories.

This slide will form the centerpiece of the Carnival WaterWorks aqua park, with children having been invited to enter a competition which could see them head to New York City to christen the park as well as win a cruise for themselves and their families.

Prospective passengers between the age of seven and 12 simply have to share their "awesome dreams" about cruising, completing the thought "Wouldn't it be awesome if" in 250 words or fewer.

The competition will close on September 18th, with Carnival set to assess the submissions on creativity and originality, USA Today has reported.

The Carnival Dream is set to enter into active service at the end of September and will offer a variety of Caribbean Cruises, mostly out of New York.

Spas all the rage for cruise liners Carnival Cruises later this year.

The Daily Mail remarks that when passengers are able to enjoy the Carnival Dream from September this year, they will be able to enjoy one of the largest spa areas on board a ship.

Writing for the publication, Wendy Gomersall highlights how importantly holidaymakers value a spa on board cruises, with ships reacting by improving the quality of what is on offer.

Gone are the days when passengers would benefit from simple pampering such as a facial or aromatic oils, with cruise lines now taking even greater steps to impress those on board.

Ms Gomersall wrote about Carnival Dream: "The Cloud 9 Spa will include 17 treatment rooms, a thalassotherapy pool with heated ionised water and pulsating water jets - great for relieving arthritis - as well as a thermal suite with four wet and dry heat therapy chambers to cleanse, tone and purify the body."

Among the destinations that passengers will be able to visit on board Carnival Dream are the Caribbean, the Mediterranean and Transatlantic Europe.

Boyle could be set for Carnival Cruise performance Carnival Cruises upon its launch in September, it has been suggested.

According to reports, the talent show's runner-up may sing on the 130,000-tonne Carnival Dream, which will be the biggest ship ever built by the company.

Boyle is currently resting in the Priory after the attention that came alongside her rise to fame was believed to be getting too much for her, although her performance of the Les Miserables song I Dreamed A Dream is thought to fit perfectly of what is wanted on board the new ship.

Among the features of the new vessel is an enormous water slide for children, which will form part of Carnival's largest ever water park.

Meanwhile, adults can relax in a two-deck area that children will be prevented from entering, containing sun beds and hammocks with enough room for 200 passengers.

The move would follow that of last year, when Myleene Klass was chosen to sing at the launch of Carnival's Splendor ship.

Boyle narrowly lost out on winning Britain's Got Talent, despite being a heavy favourite, to dance group Diversity.

Carnival Cruises ship makes one UK stop at Barrow
The Tahitian Princess, owned by Carnival Cruises, docked on Saturday morning, allowing its 700 passengers to take to the shore and explore the town's offerings.

Ahead of the event, a Cumbria Tourism spokesman told the North-West Evening Mail that Barrow would be ready to greet them.

"A major Furness fanfare is being planned on the quayside at Barrow to show off the town's position as a gateway to Cumbria and the Lake District," he explained.

The town provided a range of entertainment to welcome the 30,000-tonne ship at the docks, including brass bands and Morris dancers.

Meanwhile, Liverpool is gearing up to play host to the first transatlantic cruise liner to reach its shores in 40 years.

The MS Rotterdam is expected to arrive next week at Pier Head from New York via Belfast, the Liverpool Daily Post reports.
