Princess Cruises have revealed new ship Regal Princess will be named by the original cast of popular US television show, The Love Boat.
At a prestigious ceremony in Fort Lauderdale, Florida the cast will officially name the ship and serve as her godparents. The six members to take on this role will be Gavin MacLeod (Captain Stubing), Fred Grandy (Gopher the chief purser), Ted Lange (Isaac the bartender), Bernie Kopell (Doc, the ship’s doctor), Lauren Tewes (Julie the cruise director) and Jill Whelan (Vicki the Captain’s daughter).
The Love Boat became extremely popular in the late 70’s and 80’s and was the longest running programme on US television. All episodes were filmed onboard Princess cruise ships and have contributed to the huge success of the company. From the end of this year the line will mark five decades of operation.
Paul Ludlow, UK and Europe Managing Director for Princess Cruises said "It's fitting that Regal Princess will be named by The Love Boat cast as the event will perfectly mark the past and future of Princess Cruises. The show was key to our success and the cast are a great choice to help kick-start our anniversary celebrations".
Regal Princess will sail her maiden season in the Caribbean and be sister ship to Royal Princess.
