Luxury cruise line P&O Cruises
has come to the aid of people devastated by the earthquake and tsunami in the south Pacific by providing relief supplies.
The company has backed the Red Cross in its relief efforts for victims of the disaster by donating 740 pillows and plans to follow up with mattresses and light bulbs.
According to Ann Sherry, chief executive of Carnival Australia, which operates P&O Cruises, the company has strong links with the people of the region.
She said: "The devastation caused by the recent earthquake and tsunami is heartbreaking and as regular visitors to the south Pacific region, including the islands of Samoa, we want to assist and support those affected."
The company has a 70-strong south Pacific crew - many of who come from Vanuatu - operating on its vessels.
Last month the cruise line announced that it plans to boost the number of its employees from the region to at least 400 over the next decade.
