A new superliner will become the 'largest floating art gallery' in the UK, with almost 7,000 new pieces of modern art on board.
Under new plans by P&O Cruises
, a total of 40 British artists have been commissioned to create unique pieces of modern art worth more than ?1 million.
superliner will reflect the best contemporary artists in Britain today and is scheduled to enter service in April 2008, with P&O Cruises
running a series of Introduction to Modern Art themed cruises in partnership with Tate Modern.
Covering an array of disciplines, including photography, mural, painting, mosaic, sculpture and glasswork, the art collection will be displayed in public areas of the ship and includes work by Paul Critchley, Vanessa Ballard, Johnny Bull and Jo Downs.P&O Cruises

The 115,000-tonne, 290m long vessel is the largest superliner ever built for the British market, with acres of deck space, luxurious surroundings and restaurants serving world cuisine.
