has embarked on an initiative to hire crew members with greater understanding of destinations covered by its ships.
The company has launched a crew recruitment programme for the South Pacific, which is aimed at boosting its relationship with the region.
According to Ann Sherry, chief executive officer of Carnival Australia, which runs P&O Cruises, the move will also be beneficial to holidaymakers on the group's ships
"It will also help us bring to life the destinations we visit as our new recruits share their first-hand knowledge and stories as well as offer advice on what to do and see," she explained.
She said that the programme will increase the company's 70-strong South Pacific crew, who mainly come from Vanuatu, to at least 400 over the next decade.
The exercise is being run in collaboration with the University of the South Pacific in Fiji, which will give a foundation to hospitality graduates eager for a career at sea.
