The popularity of cruise holidays has been highlighted by
P&O Cruises, which has revealed that tickets for its vessel
Artemis' final voyage were scooped in less than 20 minutes.
Cruise lovers eager to go on the final journey of the ship, which will feature a special jazz and classical music festival at sea, snapped up the tickets in just 17 minutes.
People on the final 14-night voyage, which departs Southampton on April 12th 2011, will also be treated to commemorative memorabilia, surprise guest entertainers and champagne sailaways.
Commenting on the development, P&O Cruises' managing director, Carol Marlow said it was the fastest-selling farewell voyage she had ever seen.
"It is fantastic to see how much Artemis is loved by our passengers, and to know that her final send-off will be a truly memorable experience," she stated.
She went on to add that she hoped to join cruise lovers for "what will be a very special cruise" as they bid farewell to "a dear friend".
P&O Cruises also operates
Arcadia and
Azura cruise ships.
