Online discounts boost P&O Cruises' performance

Offering discounts to make its breaks more appealing to interested parties has worked for P&O Cruises as an increase in sales has been noted.

The cruise company recently offered interested holidaymakers the chance to save ten per cent off the cost of a trip on one of its underperforming vessels simply by booking online.

And it has been found that the move has worked a treat with those boats involved in the deal witnessing strong passenger numbers.

Giles Hawke, the sales director of Complete Cruise Solution, the trade facing arm for P&O Cruises, said: "We wanted, on all of those cruises, to stimulate the rate of sale but not to the detriment of travel agents.

"The risk of those beds sits with the cruise lines. If we have got empty beds we need to do what we need to do to stimulate the market."

P&O Cruises offer holidaymakers the chance to head to a number of destinations including the Caribbean, the Middle East and Central America, as well as Britain and Iceland.
