Oasis of the Seas to be handed to owners

Royal Caribbean Cruises is set to take delivery of its new megaship Oasis of the Seas, which is the biggest and most expensive cruise ship ever built.

The ship, which has been christened "a museum at sea" due to its innovative architecture featuring over 9000 art pieces, is to be handed to the company at the Finnish shipyard where it was built, reports the AFP.

The news provider revealed that the vessel, which cost more than one billion dollars and will be capable of accommodating over 6,000 passengers and 2,000 crew members, will be handed over at a ceremony in Turku.

After the event, the cruise ship will sail across to North America ready to embark on a four-night maiden voyage from the US port of Fort Lauderdale on December 1st.

The arrival of the vessel means that Freedom of the Seas, which is also operated by the cruise line, has been displaced as the world's largest cruise ship.

Capable of hosting around 4,400 passengers and 1,400 crew members Freedom of the Seas has occupied this spot since 2006.
