Independence of the Seas goes stateside

Date Posted: 25 Nov 2008
Royal Caribbean Cruises' newest vessel – the Freedom-class Independence of the Seas – is preparing to embark on its first US voyage.

The Independence of the Seas made its debut in Port Everglade yesterday (November 19th) and about to set sail for the eastern Caribbean.

Along with its sisters – the Freedom of the Seas and Liberty of the Seas – the Independence of the Seas is one of the world's largest cruise ships and capable of carrying 3,634 passengers.

The vessel boasts an array of exciting features, including a FlowRider surf simulartor, a water park with an interactive sculpture garden and even a boxing ring.

In addition, the ship is home to a rock-climbing wall, ice-skating rink and an array of fine restaurants.

Royal Caribbean took delivery of the vessel in April of this year, following a lavish ceremony in Finland.
