Holland America Line
has scooped a prestigious award in recognition of its environmental efforts.
The cruise line was named as the 'best cruise operator' at the 2008 Responsible Tourism Awards.
Justin Francis, the awards' director, said the cruise line had successfully managed to tackle the environmental impact of its business.
"They have reduced dockside emissions by 20 per cent, developed and implemented an "Avoiding Whale Strikes" training programme, increased recycling by 50 per cent and introduced new scrubber technology," he said.
Commenting on the award, Richard D Meadows, executive vice president of marketing, sales and guest programmes at the Holland America Line, said the company were committed to "reviewing, monitoring and improving" its operations.
Established over 135 years ago, Holland America Line is one currently offers cruises to dozens of destinations, including the Caribbean, Mexico and Alaska.
