Holland America Line (HAL) has been named as a finalist in the Conde Nast Traveller 2008 World Saver Awards.

The cruise line, which operates a fleet of five-star luxury vessels, has been nominated in recognition of its social responsibility initiative.

HAL has recently made a number of donations to worthy organisations, including $90,000 (£48,000) of dental equipment to help children living in South America, Vietnam and Mexico.

Commenting on the nomination, Richard D Meadows, Executive Vice President of Marketing, Sales and Guest Programmes, said: "One of the world's major cruise lines, we recognise our important role in protecting and contributing to the well-being of the communities we visit, both environmentally and socially."

As well as donating dental equipment, the cruise line also donated equipment from five of its ships to Indian Health Services, an organisation that provides treatment to American Indians and natives of Alaska.

HAL's fleet of luxury ships includes the Ms Eurodam, ms Amsterdam and ms Rotterdam.
