First section of new Costa ship delivered

Date Posted: 08 Aug 2007
The first section of the new Costa Cruises ship has been delivered to Italian builder Fincantieri's shipyard.

Amidst growing anticipation about the forthcoming Costa Pacifica, the bow section is the vessel was taken to the Genoa shipyard.

Set to be one of the largest ships at sea, Costa Pacifica is to continue the innovative tradition pioneered by her sisters, Costa Serena and Costa Concordia.

Swimming pools with retractable magrodomes and an authentic Grand Prix race-car drive simulator are just two of the awe-inspiring features to stun passengers of the new ship.

Costa Pacifica is one of three new ships the line has on order with Fincantieri.

She will be joined by Costa Luminosa and one more ship by the end of 2010.

Meanwhile, the line recently booked its one millionth cruise guest.

The news was described as a "historic achievement" by Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Pier Luigi Foschi.
