Cruisers to name new Royal Caribbean ship

Date Posted: 25 Jan 2008

Customers of cruise line Royal Caribbean Cruises have been given the opportunity to name its up and coming new cruise ships.

In conjunction with USA Today, an ordinary cruise holiday passenger will now have the honour of picking a name for one of the two cruise ships currently known as Genesis I and Genesis II.

The winner will be chosen in a naming contest and will then attend its gala naming ceremony and be treated to a seven-day expenses-paid cruise.

"It is believed this is the first time that a member of the general public not associated with the cruise industry will have the chance to name a major cruise ship," Royal Caribbean Cruises notes.

Moreover, it claims that the move is a break from maritime tradition which normally sees the naming undertaken by a head of state or similar.

In other Royal Caribbean Cruises news, the cruise line was recently named best cruise line for eco-friendly holidays.
