The number of Britons enjoying cruise holidays is set to increase over the coming year, according to industry experts.
Online review site Cruise Critic reports that an estimated 1.55 million Britons will take a cruise holiday during 2008, representing a 14 per cent increase on last year.
The site has predicted that the growth will continue into 2009, with the launch of new ships, such as the Oasis of the Seas
Mini-cruises are also set to increase in popularity, with more and more people going on cruise holidays to celebrate special occasions such as birthdays and anniversaries.
Cruise Critic is also predicting a boom in "healthy cruise options", with cruise lines offering lighter menus in order to attract health-conscious travellers.
In related news, a recent survey by online travel community TripAdvisor revealed that millions of British holidaymakers are planning an autumn escape.
Of those surveyed, 18 per cent said that they intended to take a holiday over the coming months.
