Holidaymakers in the market to book a cruise getaway in the summer could find themselves faced with enticing incentives from one high-end luxury operator.
In a bid to battle against its competitors,
Silversea Cruises has announced plans to offer customers free economy flights to the boarding destination of their cruise.
It has also pledged to provide some customers with $1,000 (£630) of on-board credit for luxuries like spa treatments and dinners.
"We've created new programmes to make it as attractive as possible for guests, who may have been holding back, to move ahead with their travel plans for 2009," said Silversea managing director Trudy Redfern.
The incentives on offer will be available on 28 European and Mediterranean cruises, but other offers are likely to be introduced to excursions to Alaska, the Pacific Coast and South America.
Meanwhile, according to a recent report from the Passenger Shipping Association, this year has seen an 11 per cent rise in the number of Britons going on cruises.
