Winter solstice was marked yesterday (December 22nd) and Celebrity Cruises
took advantage of the shortest day of the year to name the fourth ship in its stylish Solstice Class fleet.
Weighing 122,000 tonnes, Celebrity Silhouette will arrive in the market with a series of revolutionary features including a half-acre Lawn Club with real grass and a glassblowing show and studio developed with the Corning Museum of Glass.
Its 2,850 guests will not only be able to enjoy first-class dining venues and entertainment, but will also be accommodated in larger staterooms, 90 per cent of which are outside.
Some 85 per cent of the rooms will feature verandas, with Celebrity's ConciergeClass and spa-inspired AquaClass used to deliver different types of accommodation.
Celebrity Cruises president and chief executive Dan Hanrahan said that "countless guests and travel partners" have been pressuring the company to reveal the ship's name over the past few months.
The Passenger Shipping Association recently predicted 1.65 million UK cruise holidays in 2010.
