We were on the Chistmas cruise MSC Opera to Anakao-Madagascar and Portuguese Islands. First of all I have to compliment the chefs onboard. The food was outstanding. A real feast - Thank you for all the effort and very hard work. Then to doctor Visnja Jevic- thank you very much for your assistance when my husband Thomas became ill with a stomach virus. We really appreciate your and your assistance Maria's help. We in South Africa would love to have doctors like you here! All the crew on the ship work very hard to keep the guests happy. Thank you all for a memorable time. All of you help to make my 50th birthday an unforgettable experience! Best wishes to all of you! Thomas and Helena Pienaar. Cabin 12011.

Had a fantastic cruise on MSC Opera in Aug 2012. We also read previous reviews of the Opera and thought the worst, but it was actually fantastic. Typical English people on the ship that moaned about everything, but we couldn't fault it at all and we will definately return to an MSC cruise in the future. We really enjoyed it and we cruised with our children who are 7 and 3 and they enjoyed it too. Thanks MSC for a wonderfull holiday.

We had a fantastic time . The boat was clean and very well maintained. Staff were always helpful and nothing was too much of a bother . The food was excellent. Seven courses of the most delicious food. Cabin was a bit small but clean with lots of storage space. Pools were not heated but kids didn't seem to mind. Would recommend and will go on MSC again.

My wife and I enjoyed the Fjords itinerary on MSC Opera in June. We made a late booking and got a great deal. It was out 6th Cruise and our first with MSC. We were expecting 'cheap and cheerful' but it was much better than that. Boarding at Southampton was easy and stress free. The ship was immaculate and all the staff were friendly and helpful. The food was excellent and a special mention must go to the entertainment team. We thought they were fantastic. One very minor downside was the announcements in multiple languages. Its fine for the emergency drills but the rest of the time it is repeating what is in the 'cruise news' daily publications. It sometimes seemed to go on for a very long time at high volume. We wondered how it would go if they adopted a silent ship approach as they do now in airports. Take some responsibility for yourself! However, that's a very minor gripe and we would certainly cruise with MSC again. A couple of tips for anyone going on the same itinerary; the ship berths right in the centre of Bergen, Stavanger, Oslo and Flaam. You can walk off the ship and tour buses are right next to the ship. If you only want the train ride into the mountains from Flaam, the railway station is only a hundred yards or so from the ship.

We've just returned from a fabulous cruise on MSC Opera. We went from Southampton to the Norwegian fjords in June 2012. We were allocated a Balcony Suite although only booked an Inside cabin and I have to say it was wonderful! We were allocated second sitting at dinner although had wanted the first sitting, but actually it was fine and the first sitting which started at 5.45 would have been a rush. The waiter service in the main dining rooms could be a bit slow at times but the quality and amount of food couldn't be faulted. We often only had 3 out of the 7 courses and this was sufficient. There were 2 or 3 choices for all courses. We tried the cafeteria dining room on deck 11 but it wasn't for us even though many people seemed to choose to eat there rather than the waiter-service restaurants. We had asked for a table for 2 but were allocated a table for 4 with dinner and this was fine as we sat with a couple similar in age to ourselves. There were hardly any tables for 2 with many tables seating between 6 and 12 diners. We didn't go to any of the shows as we prefer to have a pre-dinner drink and game of cards, but we heard very good reviews from others. We expected drinks to be expensive but it wasn't as bad as we expected although you have to remember they add 15% on for service. A large Gin and tonic was €6.25 and most cocktails were the same price too. I think a large draught beer was €4.90. A large bottle of water was about €2.45. Our only real criticism was of the organisation of the excursions which wasn't very efficient. All in all we had a fab cruise (we were first timers) and we would definitely go again and will certainly use Iglu as they were excellent.

I have to say the MSC Opera was one of the best cruise we had taken. The rooms are not huge but a good size, with ample storage space. The wait staff onboard was so professional, and quick to assist even when my son drop his spoon, the staff got us a new clean one, even before me and my wife were aware of it. The food was excellent. The entertainment was top notch, by far the best. Most of the passengers were American with only a few other European. There are many families with young kids. So our kids made many friends of their age. We had a very relaxing and reasonably priced cruise.

My 11 nights cruise from Southampton to Venice with a flight home to Gatwick in September 2011 exceeded my expectations. A single traveller I had an inside cabin for the holiday at the special late price. There were 1700 passengers but still plenty of seating room. Five course dining room meals with small quantities were excellent. Food in the self-service cafeteria was far less good with fewer choices and a bad dishes keeping hot water system. However that service suited quite a few people, particularly families. With five major nationalities on oard, crew did their best with languages with smiles and charm. Drinks were seldom less than £5.00. Time in Bilbao and Dubrovnik was too small and in Sardinia too much. My inside cabin had many mirrors and pictures so I did not feel claustrophobic withy no window. I found MSC Opera fine and would go on the ship again.

Having read some reviews of this ship I drove to Southampton fully expecting to have a pretty dreadful trip. After 24 hours I thought those bad reviews must have been written about a different ship. After 48 hours I was sure they must have been. The boarding process was well organised and smooth. The cabin much more spacious and well furnished than anticipated. The staff were friendly and helpful and the food excellent. Of course there were queues at the buffet at busy times. This is surely to be expected when 2000 want feeding at the same time! The choice of evening meal in the restaurants was excellent. There are a few things I can't eat but I never had a problem with that. The service was also very good. We heard some moans from people who wanted food 'like home' and who even complained because announcements had to be made in five languages! I would agree that anyone who wishes to stay in a little bit of Britain whilst visiting foreign parts would probably be best to choose a British ship full of British people. There were a couple of minus points (internet connection dodgy) but generally we had an excellent experience and have no hesitation in recommending both MSC and the Opera to anyone who doesn't mind trying food they may not have eaten before and chatting with people who do not come from the UK.
