Oosterdam Reviews
View Cruise DealsCrew and activities were great but ship seemed a little tired. We especially enjoyed the travel guides talks on each port visited and the ships commentary as we passed through glaciers and went around Cape Horn
Loved our first cruise
We love sailing with Holland America and as always we thoroughly enjoyed our cruise. There were some minor issues with the cabin (the mat in front of the verandah doors was curled up at the edges and caused a few minor trips, seal round the door needed reapplying as the wind whistled through the doors, sealant round the bath was cracked and peeling) so some updating would be of benefit). The crew as always were excellent, always smiling, friendly and polite. The captain stood out as he gave fascinating talks, updates and his sense of humour was fabulous! The food in the dining room was delicious! Well thought out menus reflecting the local cuisines and cooked to perfection! The onboard entertainment was rather repetitive but we enjoyed the dance troupe, Hyperion Knight was exceptional and the comedian made us laugh throughout his performance.
This was a great holiday visiting great places in South America the ship was very good although the food was good but not great the room was clean the staff were very friendly the excursions team were great I know there could be some more entertainment but what was offered was good whether on our trip was great all the time but going around Cape Horn was a very very nice and visiting the falcon Islands was the highlight
We had an amazing time on the Oosterdam and all the staff were first class and looked after us so well. The calls of ports were chosen well and we enjoyed the choice of trips given. State room was very comfortable and enjoyed being able to have a choice between bath and shower. Would highly recommend a trip on this ship line with Holland America.
Overall oosterdam is similar to any other cruise ship of it’s age, some areas are a bit dated but overall a good value for money
Our time on the Oosterdam was excellent with the exception of the numerous leaks that appeared during the second week, although none were major and didnt affect us too much but there were a few and especially since she had been in dry dock not so long ago. The excursion, well the first (Montivideo) was cancelled as not enough people the second Ushuaia was very disappointing especially for the money The third (Port Montt) was excellent and we thoroughly enjoyed it. All transfers between airports, Hotels etc were excellent with the exception from Foz airport to Hotel. We were advised it was a taxi but ended up as 2 large coachs taking everyone through the border to Brazil and our hotels. This caused 3 hours delay anf the Hotel in Iguazu falls had no dinning room so we had to find dinner elsewhere having just arrived. In all we are very happy
The Captain, Kevin kept us informed. The crew were amazing and the itinerary perfect. We had an extra day in Antarctica, which was just what we wanted. The weather was hit and miss, but what else would you expect in this part of the world As always the enrichment on Holland America is the best
My hip needs replaced and we debated about cancelling our cruise, we are both glad we didn’t . We hired a wheelchair on board with our on board spend and I was able to get off at the ports. I was helped on to tender boats pushed up and down gangways helped by locals when we got stuck, we met so many lovely people. In the Falklands I nearly got blown over but was rescued by the jeep driver who took me to the tearoom. Our steward gave us a wedge to keep the cabin door open but was usually there to help stow the chair away for the night. Every morning when we went to the Lido for breakfast I got a good morning Moira as they moved chairs to accommodate my wheelchair. We did not do our usual 5ks round the deck in the morning but were able to enjoy our trip thank you all.
Amazing 22day Chile/Antarctica/Falklands/Uruquay/Argentina experience on the Oosterdam. Antarctica was simply breathtaking and the Ship's Master did everything possible to maximise every aspect of the 4 days amongst the ice. Ship's crew were exceptional in every sense and the vessel itself perfect. Slightly older ship, not overly glitzy, just perfect. Our first cruise with Holland America, we are now completely converted and looking towards the next one with them, already seriously considering repeating the Antarctica cruise !
