First time with Holland America. Liked the smaller ship - only 1200+. We sailed from Boston to Montreal. Lovely scenery ashore. Meals good. Entertainment company average except for the last show which were excellent. To give them fair dues, they were dancing on a small stage. We had a vista suite - about 280 sq ft. We didn't feel that it was big enough to be called a suite, just a superior balcony cabin. I personally found the mattress too hard, but my husband was ok with it. As expected, the staff were very attentive, but service in the dining room was slow on several evenings. We chose he free dining for dinner and it was more interesting meeting different passengers at dinner instead of being at a fixed table. I would Tavel with Holland America again as their ships go to smaller ports. I do not recommend staying on in Montreal. We found the city was a mishmash of fine older buildings dominated by 60s 70s buildings. Looked as if there had been no overall town planning.

Our time on the Maasdam was fantastic. We were amazed that from the first step onboard, the room steward knew our names. And the wine steward at dinner also seems to remember everyone's favourite drink. I found the food wonderful, especially the Lido buffet. I found the services to be friendly and attentive. Also I found the performers in the production shows are truly talented. There are plenty to do for family to participate such as sailing, snorkel and shuffleboard. And our kids loves the variety of fresh burgers tasty, and also there are plenty of flavours ice cream for them to choose from.
