Cruise and Maritime

Cruise and Maritime

You will need to consult the Daily Programme for the suggested dress code for that evening.

You can expect two ‘formal’ nights on each cruise. You’ll find that many gentlemen opt for a dinner jacket, though it’s fine to wear a lounge suit if preferred. Ladies have the opportunity to wear cocktail or evening dresses. Again, trouser suits are quite acceptable.

The informal evenings will see gentlemen wearing suits or jackets with or without a tie. Ladies may wish to wear a cocktail dress, trouser suit and stylish co-ordinates.

On Casual evenings, feel comfortable in whatever you may wish to wear.

Cunard

Cunard

Cunard are keen to maintain their reputation for glamorous evenings onboard their ships. Formal evenings however are limited to a maximum of three in a week. Consult your Daily Programme for details of that evening’s dress code. The dress codes come into effect at 6pm each evening.

Formal: Black tie or formal, dark suit for gentlemen. Evening dress or other formalwear for ladies.

Semi-formal: Jacket and tie for gentlemen. Cocktail dress or trouser suit for ladies. No jeans please.

Elegant casual: Jacket, no tie required for gentlemen. Dress, skirt or trousers for ladies. No jeans or shorts please.

Fred. Olsen

Fred. Olsen

Fred Olsen suggest that there will be four formal nights on a fortnight cruise.

Formal evenings are generally ‘black tie’ for the gentlemen with the ladies wearing a cocktail or evening dress.

Most evenings are informal, where the gentlemen will wear a jacket and tie (lounge suit or sports jacket is absolutely fine) and the ladies will be ‘smartly dressed’.

There will be some casual or themed evenings during the cruise.

Please note that Fred Olsen offer a pre-bookable formal hire service. Please call Floating Formals on 020 8952 1497 for more details.

P&O Cruises

P&O Cruises

On a two week cruise expect:

Four formal nights and ten smart casual evenings on Oceana and Ventura.

Four formal nights, four semi-formal nights and six smart casual evenings onboard Arcadia, Artemis, Aurora, Azura and Oriana.

Formal dress code is as follows:

Evening dress, cocktail dress or trouser suit for ladies. Most gentlemen will wear a tuxedo, though a lounge suit and tie or formal national dress is fine.

For semi-formal nights:

Ladies will wish to wear an elegant dress, stylish separates or tailored trousers. Gentlemen are to wear a smart shirt, jacket and trousers. A suit may be worn but it isn’t compulsory.

For the smart casual nights:

P&O suggest that ‘stylish resort wear’ is ideal. This could be casual dresses or separates for the ladies. Gentlemen may wish to wear a jacket and smart trousers, though this is not compulsory. Smart dark denim is fine, though sportswear isn’t.

Please note. If you have children in your party, they are not expected to follow the semi-formal or formal guidelines. They will be expected to be dressed as per the smart casual guidelines, though no denim on the formal or semi-formal nights please.

MSC Cruises

MSC Cruises

You can expect 1 formal night for cruise of 4 – 6 nights in length, 2 formal nights on 7 – 11 night cruises or 4 on cruises of 15 nights or longer.

For such nights it is recommended that gentlemen wear a lightweight suit (or a dinner jacket if wished); ladies would wish to wear a cocktail dress for the occasion.

For all other nights, summery dresses for ladies and a lightweight jacket are listed as recommendations. No jeans, t-shirts or shorts will be permitted in the dining rooms after 6pm.

Thomson Cruises

Thomson Cruises

There is a single gala night during a weeklong cruise on a Thomson cruise ship. You will find that most will dress up, the gentlemen in tuxedos or suit and tie; ladies will often take the opportunity to wear a cocktail or evening dress. If you do not wish to join in with the formalities on this particular evening, alternative dining arrangements are made available.

Otherwise, the dress code is smart casual. Gentlemen will be required to wear trousers and an open-necked shirt such as a polo shirt is fine.

Azamara Cruises

Azamara Cruises

'Resort Casual' is the order of  the day (and night!) and in keeping with the restrained and relaxed atmosphere onboard Azamara's ships. Whilst you are welcome to dress formally for dinner, there is no requirement to do so nor are there any specific formal nights. With that in mind, tuxedo rental is not available onboard.

Resort Casual could mean:

Golf shirts, polo shirt, button down shirts and slacks for the gentlemen.

Ladies will possibly wear casual dresses, trousers, skirts, blouses and knitwear.

Light fabrics are entirely appropriate.

Please note: no jeans, bare feet or swimwear in the dining room please.
