Important information on travelling with children on a cruise

Many cruise ships offer a fantastic experience to children with a huge range of organised activities and supervised clubs.

Minimum age limit  is generally between 6 and 12 months depending on the route.  Kids under the age of either 18 or 21, depending on the cruise line, must be accompanied by an adult.  If the parent is not travelling, then written consent must be provided. 

Cunard

There are 2 complimentary kids clubs on board, open between 9am and Midnight with a couple of 1 hour breaks for you to be able to take your children out to feed them.  The activities are aimed at the specific age ranges as set out so it is not possible to mix children of different ages into the groups.
The Playzone for younger children ( ages 1 - 6), is a secure area with video games, arts and crafts, videos and movies, outdoor and multi purpose area.
The Zone is for older children of ages 7 - 12, with video game stations, table football and a lounge area with screens  for videos and movies.
All children must be toilet trained before using the pools.  No swim nappies are allowed.

Baby listening does not exist on board in your cabins.  A complimentary group baby sitting service is offered in The Zone on board the Queen Mary 2 and the Queen Victoria for which your child must be at least 1 years old.

Complimentary childrens' clubs are available on board for kids aged between 3 and 17.  The activities are age related, with 3 clubs organised for 3 different age groups.  Activities range between arts and crafts, mini bowling, Wii consoles, Formula 1 simulators (MSC Fantasia and MSC Splendida), 4D cinema, Video Games Arcades, Acqua parks, tennis, squash, basketball courts, shuffleboard, a jogging track, 4 swimming pools, mini golf, MTV style dance classes, trivia, dance contests, live music and discos.

Kids clubs are available throughout the day and are split into 4 different age groups between 3 and 17 years of age.  From 9 am to 11.30pm your children can enjoy making new friends in a safe, secure, stimulating environment. 
Younger kids can enjoy painting t shirts, sculpting with plasticine, treasure hunts, chocolate parties, face painting and fancy dress.
Teens can enjoy tattoo and body painting, pearl necklace making, quiz on modern culture, hip hop dancing classes, guitar parties under the stars.  They can enjoy 2 themed nights out with similar aged children and lots of activities.
A complimentary group baby sitting service is available in the children's area until 1.30am.  The night time service is not available for the under 3's

Activities and fun filled child areas are free to use on board for all kids aged between 3 (must be fully potty trained) and 17 years of age.  Your children can enjoy activities including crafts, games, toys, arcade games, music and karaoke with their own age group.

All children participating in children's programmes must be potty trained. A small charge may apply to some of the children's activities.

Children are not allowed in the Casino.

Cots can be requested at the time of booking.  Please note that these will limit the available floor space in your cabin.

Baby-sitting and child minding (for a nominal fee) can normally be arranged when you are onboard. The minimum age for in stateroom baby-sitting is 1 years old

An exciting programme of activities is available for children aged between 3 (must be fully toilet trained) and 17 years old.  Some of the fun-filled activities include bingo for prizes, arts & crafts and special parties.  An activity schedule for each age group will be delivered to your stateroom each evening.

Supervised activities are offered for kids (ages 3-7), 'tweens (8-12) and teens (13-17). The program has an open door policy, which means that the participants can come and go as they please.

Holland America offer a culinary skills workshop for all children age ranges 3 -7 and then 8 - 14.  Teenagers 15 upwards can join in to the adult classes.

All ships offer activities for ages between 3 and 17 except for  the Prinsendam where the minimum age limit is 5.

A limited number of high chairs, booster seats and cribs are available at no extra charge. These must be reserved in advance at the time of booking.

Whilst at sea, babysitting services are available through the Front Desk for a small additional cost and are for children 3 years of age or older. This service is not always available. Babysitting service is not offered while the ship is in port, although Club Hal does offer activities for children aged 3-12 between 8:00am and 4:00pm on port days.

After Hours group child sitting is offered every evening from
10:00 pm to 12:00 am. Children must be 3 years of age and potty trained. Charge is $5.00 hour per child. 

Limited private babysitting is available for all ages through the front office

Children must be at least 6 months for some destinations and at least 12 months for others.
Fantastic Fisher Price Activity Centre on board for 6 - 36 month olds. 
Access to swimming pools is restricted to those out of nappies and they must be fully toilet trained. Those still in nappies can use the Baby Splash Zone.
Babysitting is available; either individually in your stateroom or in a group setting.  Children must be 1+ years for this service.
Dining must be before 7pm.
Older children
Fabulous range of supervised clubs available as part of the  Adventure Youth Programme., Ages 3 - 17, as well as mini golf, tennis , climbing wall, waterslides, basketball, art and craft. 

P&O Cruises

For 2 - 17 year olds, The Reef is an on-board programme catering for 4 different age groups.  Exciting and interesting daily activities are organised every day and tailored to each age group.  The children are split into the following groups to enable them to mix with their own age and enjoy appropriately aged entertainment.
- ‘Splashers’ for 2 – 4 year olds
- ‘Surfers’ for 5 – 8 year olds
- ‘Scubas’ for 9 – 12 year olds
- ‘h2o’ for 13 – 17 year olds 

Your children will dine with you for breakfast and lunch and then you have a choice for your evening meal.  They can either enjoy the child friendly tea laid on with all the food that you know your kids love or they can eat with you, depending on your dining choice.  

There is not a private baby sitting service, however a night nursery is available. Alternatively you can leave your children in the cabin and dial into your cabin with the cabin listening service, (much like a baby listening monitor).

With Freestyle Cruising you have a vast selection of childrens and teenagers activity programmes. (2 to 17 years). Supervised by qualified childcarers, age-appropriate activities are designed to keep your little ones entertained and while at sea the activities are free.

Children must be at least 6 months old at the time of embarkation.

Nappies of any description are not allowed in the swimming pools and hot tubs.

Group baby sitting is available for children aged between 2 and 12 for a nominal fee.  In cabin sitting is not available and leaving your children alone in your cabin is not advised.
